Please can someone calm me down. I went to bed and then suddenly starting shaking. My whole body, I also felt cold. It was terrifying. It came and when 3 times in about 15 minutes. I'd had a few drinks this evening and wondered if it could be that. If anyone can offer any advice I would really appreciate it thanks.

Sounds like you had a rigor.

MummaPI · 28/03/2021 09:21

I read about rigor but it seems to come with a temperature which i didn't have. Can you have them without?

Hormones. I shook my way through post pregnancy/breast feeding and now I’m on the verge of menopause I find myself shaking in bed as I get really cold.

I have also wondered this. What are your shakes like? I had 3 quick episodes over 15 minutes like i was shivering or an adrenaline rush.

When I shook my milk in i had a whole night of shaking, midwives thought I was odd but being t unheard of. Nowadays I put my electric blanket on and that’s the way I control it. I wouldn’t say I’m shaking uncontrollably though.

My partner shakes uncontrollably when he’s ill and as a result of the medication he takes for a health condition. So I know what that looks like.

Please go to A&E. I don’t think this sounds like a seizure as you were able to move and don’t sound like you were spacey or vague. You didn’t lose consciousness. Do you have any rashes or skin sores? (Big pimples, anything?) Are you very thirsty, peeing a lot? Do you have a headache?

I think you need some blood tests. I am concerned about your blood sugar, your thyroid, your temperature (possible infection).

I've also experienced uncontrollable shaking and feeling freezing in pregnancy and breastfeeding in the early months due to hormones, I feel freezing even under a duvet and blankets and can't warm up till it stops, then it stops as quickly as it starts and I feel warm straight away. Really scary as it made my teeth chatter, only ever happened in the middle of the night though for me.

Hope you get some reassurance soon

@justanotherneighinparadise I also had rigors when my milk came in.

You don’t just get them with temperatures. I get them when my body has a bit of a shock - like after having my wisdom teeth out. And after both my c sections.

I really don't think I need A and E. I feel fine other than shaking last night. I'll ring the GP tomorrow. I'd have other symptoms with an infection wouldn't i?

Thank you, I appreciate your concern. I feel fine though. No spots. Had blood tests recently, all normal.
