D&V while on ABS

I started with D on Monday night and the GP put me on antibiotics on Tuesday for an ear infection. They said to go in to see them yesterday as had diagnosed over the phone and I mentioned that I was having D which they put down to a side-affect of the ABS and said to keep taking them. However, Iam concerned that I was sick a couple of times yesterday evening, and haven’t been able to eat. When I go to the toilet its really loose watery and full of mucus. I have had these ABS before with out problems, so wondering if there is anything I should be doing besides fluids and resting as much as possible while WfH.

Yes it's a small window that fills quickly. Hope you can get through at 8 xx

GoodNewsAhead · 30/03/2021 03:54

Thanks will deffinately give them a call in the morning.
Lots about the nurses advice doesn’t sit right with the NHS link.
I explained that the D is waking me up from sleep and is very watery and lots of mucus and that I have only been able to wee a small amount of dark wee a couple of times despite trying to push fluids. She asked about eating and I said I had had a small amount of rice some chicken noodle soup and a banana with live yogurt yesterday and she said to stop eating until the diarrhea passes. The NHS link also says not to take imodium if seveer D while on Abs and I was advised to take imodium.

Yeah that's why I looked up nhs. I hope you get advice in the morning. I was always brought up to eat toast and maybe some chicken soup. I was told fruit was too high fibre. My husband has ulcerative colitis and has a terrible terrible flair and we had to feed him a very low fibre almost high junk diet. Basically food that won't make you poop. I dunno, I'm no medical expert. Hoping you get some support tomorrow xx

Thanks. Yes was always raised on the BRAT diet maybe with jelly, soup or icelollies.

Hope your husbands UC is under control. I have a colleague with the condition and they have a simmilar low residue diet with problems They seem to eat lots of soup, marshmellows, jelly sweets and things like mash potatoes or blended carrot and chicken and eggg.

Oh my you've had such a day.

Im glad you've been checked over. That's a huge relief and reassurance. What advice did they give

GoodNewsAhead · 31/03/2021 02:34

Thanks hey said to ask the GP to send of a stool sample and dip urine in the morning.

They have advised eating little and offten with bland foods and the same with fluids. I have only been able to keep down small amounts of rice and have made some banana yogurt and apple nice cream and seem to be apple to mannage a couple of spoonfuls because of its cold.

How did you go??

GoodNewsAhead · 31/03/2021 23:04

Its all been ridiculous. Honed recetion and explained and after some time as they wanted to speak to different peole was told to take a samle down.

Took it to the GP and was got a call 30 minutes later to be told they had no reccord of the Walkin attendance and needed to test. Honed the walk in to check the details are correct and they said i would need to speak to a nurse.

Spoke to a nurse who said that it was impossible they had not received.

Phoned the GP and they said they had something but it did not recommend a test but not to wiorry they would ask the nurse to look at things and i should get a call by the end of the day.

However, have not had a call. Out of hours are saying to go to A&E if things get worse. They are absolutely not worse but cant carry on like this. I am concerned that if they haven’t sent off the sample things will not move until after the bank holiday. I don’t want to go go to A&E as can just about manage at home and assume it wil be a long and uncomfortable wait when i want my own toilet.
