Can't tell if it's toothache or earache

I was experiencing a pain since lunch time. Basically every time I swallow, I feel a pinch on one side of my mouth. I don't know of its a toothache or located in my ear.

I used a dental gel and a salt water rinse and it seems to have improved somewhat. Now every time I swallow there is a slight pain in behind my ear.

I do suffer from ear pain and I have to wear caps most of the year, even in summer time if its a cold day in August or September as an example. Yesterday I was working outside and I never had time to cover my ears. It was a cold day.

Now I don't know if the pain I am experiencing is a tooth or ear. I took ibuprofen earlier for a sore arm.

Thanks for all of the replies. I will update in case anyone is interested. Its a weird one.

I got very very very sore last night. It was bad. It was my ear and my face. I went to the out of hours doctor. It was tonsillitis. He could have knocked me down with a feather. I never had a sore throat but when the doctor looked, the tonsils were inflamed and infected. I never even had a fever. The highest my temperature ever went to was 37.6.

I never had tonsillitis before and I am reading up about tonsillitis. The viral or bacterial germ that causes tonsillitis is contagious. Apparently someone is most contagious in the two days before symptoms appear.

I'm baffled as to how I picked up tonsillitis. I am well and truly baffled. I am following all of the covid guidelines. I never got a cold this winter. The people around me never came down with colds either. The only thing I can think of is from my partner. He goes about a lot of the time with a heavy phlegm feeling. My mother coughs openly in the home so that could be another cause.
