ive been having awful night sweats for some time now. on and off i seem to remember before getting pregnant...i dont recall having any whilst pg..had terrible ones the first week or so after giving birth. started getting them on and off again and thought i had pinpointed it to the week before my period. however, maybe just coincidence but since ive had the pill injection its been every night. i wake up drenched and freezing and its really getting me down. i had put it down to hormones but the nurse told me when i had this injection it wouldnt/couldnt affect it. so what could it be? really should see the doctor but i feel such a fool complaining about it!

nightowl - you must see the doctor. How long roughly has it been?

colditzmum · 31/10/2004 00:01

Don't know much about the situation, please don't be offended if it doesn't apply, but some antidepressants can cause chills and sweats at night, as can a lot of caffiene or sugery things. Not much help I spose

MummyToSteven · 31/10/2004 00:09

i agree with blossomhill. I do think that some nurses are very keen to get you to have the depo, and minimise risk of side effects, so I wouldn't take what the nurse said as gospel tbh, so wouldn't say it was impossible that its the depo causing it, but it is still worth investigating. are you on any other meds that could be causing this?

blossomhill · 31/10/2004 00:16

You really shouldn't have to go through this nightowl. Hope you get it sorted out soon

mears · 31/10/2004 00:45

I am aware of women having these side effects on depo provera. Go and see your doctor.

nightowl · 31/10/2004 00:51

thanks all...im not on the anti-d's anymore or any kind of medication at all so i know its not that. but if it is hormonal i dont think there's much they can do is there? i dont think tbh that i will be having the injection again anyway if things dont settle down..ive been on a constant (light) period ever since i had it six or seven weeks ago.

blossomhill...i dont recall so much but i know its been a long time on and off..perhaps two years or so.

colditzmum...dont worry, not offended i dont have much caffeine or too many sugary things. dont surpose a couple glasses of wine a night would cause it would they? long shot i know...just trying to think of everything.

i am a "hot" person anyway....i dont seem to get cold very often. clutching at straws now

It sounds hormonal to me. I get really, really hot coming up to my periods, say 3 nights before. To the point where I don't sleep so it sounds sort of the same. Again I am no expert!

nightowl · 31/10/2004 01:20

thats what i thought given the timing of it and none pg and whatever...also means no cure? !!

Of course it doesn't nightowl. Until you see your gp you won't know. Please do not feel embarrased as it isn't something to feel embarrassed about, honest

nightowl · 31/10/2004 01:36

bless ya!!

I started getting night sweats fairly regularly when I started a new pill (Yasmin) - I found that they stopped when I came off it even though the GP said that the sweats weren't one of the known side affects. Based on this is could be the injection but I would agree that you should see your GP to rule out anything more serious.
