Molluscum

I was interested to see a piece on Molluscum on the Mumsnet "experts" section. I had never heard of it until dd got it at Easter. Somebody recommended giving her echinacea to combat it. I've been giving her echinacea for a couple of weeks and the molluscum is fading fast. Just thought I'd mention it in case it's helpful to anyone.

Our ds had molluscum early last year behind his knee. It got worse gradually over a period of 2 - 3 months then cleared up on its own when he coincidentally also caught chickenpox.

Our GP recommended just leaving it to clear up of its own accord as it is harmless.

I was thrilled to see that as my ds1, 9 has been suffering quite badly from this. Thanks for the tip, I will try it.

my 3 yr old had it and i saw a homeopath as he had it on his face and one on his lower eyelid that really annoyed him. She managed to clear them up! also apparently wrapping your finger with sellotape, sticky side out and dabbing the molluscum many time can remove the white core. if you get the core out then it will disappear you see! My Gp said Tyler caught them from swimming!

forgot to add that young children have them a lot as they have weaker immune systems. Mollscum is a form of pox. Eventually the immune system realises it needs to attack it thats why echinacea helps as it stimulates the immune syst.

How do you give echinacea to a toddler? I take it to ward off evil colds and sinusitis, but I suppoose it cd be disguised in yogurt or sth? My 7 yr old had it on her side and one arm and was very bothered by it, scratched her inside elbow so much she now has excema there even tho the molluscum has gone. 3 yr old has it on his tummy now and is not too bothered but they are moving down near his groin and I worry that if he gets them on his willy he will mind a lot.

Anyone know where you can get Echinacea drops for under 2's. I have only found Bioforce, but they are for over two's only

A 'Boots' Pharmacist told me Echinacea was not suitable for children under 8. For 8-12 yr olds it should only be given to help eczema.

Thanks Pamina
