Hi everyone
So tomorrow I'm getting a tooth out and I'm massively nervous my dentist said I'll be fine and that I've had a csection so a tooth is nothing !!!
I have some diazepam from a previous appointment but I'm unsure of timings when to take ? They are 5mg
Should I take half before bed tonight as a trial run !
Please help 💜

Normally Temazepam is the sedative used before an appointment as it's shorter acting than Diazepam.
You need to remember you can't drive, operate machinery or sign any legal documents after taking it. Oral sedatives are normally taken an hour before the appointment.
Were these prescribed from your Dentist?
Your Dental practice would prefer to know you're going to take a sedative as it affects consent so I would check in with your practice in the morning.
If you don't take Diazepam normally if you take it tonight be aware it can make you feel a bit groggy in the morning as it acts for a long time.
If you've had a c-section you can do this.

Thanks x
No they weren't by this dentist but a previous that I chickened out of x
I know it's pathetic even my boyfriend said I can do it my section was only a year ago 😂 but I suppose it's just a fear I've always had .. my dentist did say he can prescribe it to me but he thinks I should try and tackle my fear ..
Easy said for him as I've already got a missing tooth on show so I bloody need to go to get my plate 😂

I may also add that my partner has taken the day off so that I don't need to deal with a one year old 😂

Great you've got your partner to support you, you don't have to toddler wrangle, you have a reason to do it so you can get that other tooth replaced. Good luck- you can do this (but just tell them you're going to take the sedative first)

TheBookworm88 · 18/03/2021 23:10

Hey, what tooth are you having out? I've had a few out and have had varying experiences with each of them (nothing terrible don't worry!)

Aleshia31 · 19/03/2021 07:16

Thanks guys !
I took half of one last night and had a great sleep so I know I'm good to go lol !
It's two back from the fang tooth
It's literally half a tooth so I'm worried they can't get a grip of it !
But the dentist said it's not going to be traumatic he seemed really nice so here's hoping it goes ok !

Honestly having a tooth removed is easy. Much easier than more complicated treatments. The work of moments.

TheBookworm88 · 19/03/2021 09:02

Sounds like it could be your pre molar you're having out. Should be easy enough to come out. My mum had her bottom pre molar out a few weeks ago. Took the dentist a while to remove it as she had to do it in sections (teeth sometimes break whilst being removed but it's very common). She felt absolutely no pain during or after though, just a bit shivery from having it done (she's a very nervous patient). It healed up well and doesn't affect her ability to eat at all. I've had both upper wisdom teeth out and a lower molar. Uppers literally popped out in seconds. It's honestly not that bad getting a tooth out, the noises can be a little alarming just but they are normal. Maybe bring headphones and listen to music if you have them. Follow the aftercare to the letter and you'll be fine. Let us know how you get on!

Bit late but may help for other nervous patients.
I used to have what I thought were panic attacks whenever I had a filling or extraction, heart racing, shaky etc.
Eventually found out I was sensitive to the adrenaline in the local anaesthetic and was fine when given the adrenaline free version.
I was a bit worried I might get more bleeding (as adrenaline reduces blood loss) when I had a molar removed a few weeks ago. It was a difficult extraction as tooth was split lengthways, but there didn't seem to be a huge amount of bleeding.

Aleshia31 · 19/03/2021 11:39

I'm just terrified they are pulling my tooth and like my
Whole head is lifting off of the chair etc I know it sounds mad 😂 hopefully it goes ok

Don't be afraid to tell the dentist you are nervous. I make it pretty clear... so there is not mistake.

I'm much better now that I have a dentist who is very sympathetic. Reminds me you can't actually feel pain when breathing out so deep steady breaths are good. He Aliso promises that if I signal it's too much for me by lifting up my hand he will stop.

Having a bit of control and something like breathing to concentrate on really helps me. And yes, I have had occasions when I wouldn't even open my mouth and had to be taken home unseen (in my younger days) Good luck.

picklemewalnuts · 19/03/2021 11:57

I didn't feel any pressure or pulling, Aleshia. Just a click.

TheBookworm88 · 19/03/2021 20:03

How did you get on @Aleshia31

Aleshia31 · 19/03/2021 20:08

Great to hear that OP :-)

I've been scared of dentists since a bad experience as a child (long time ago), but in my 30s (!) I learned to manage the fear because I had a very good dentist. I always tell them that I'm nervous and ask them to take account of it. These days they always do.

So, although I'm never going to regard a visit to the dentist as just another appointment I'm now much less frightened. Hopefully other nervous people can speak up as it will help them - dentists are used to hearing it :)

TheBookworm88 · 19/03/2021 21:56

Well done @Aleshia31Grin

FinallyHere · 19/03/2021 22:30

Well done @Aleshia31

It never fails to surprise me nowadays when I wake up and think, dentist appointment today and it's no big deal.

such a difference in my life

Of all the changes life has seen in my lifetime, I think the improvements in dentistry have had the biggest impact for the good for me.
