Everyday facial and eye pain

Wondering if anyone can help me understand what is wrong with my face !

I seem to have attacks of pain, I get tender pain at the back of my eye (it alternates each eye) and whichever eye it's affecting my jaw on the same side hurts, but only the joint. Sometimes my teeth get involved, not often though. Also my neck on the same side will hurt. It all just feels really tender. Almost like migraine but in my eye/face. When it happens it's always for a few days at a time and then I don't get it again for a while.
Sometimes my ear hurts, it is blocked and I'm waiting for a referral to ent but would a blocked ear cause all this pain ?? I get tinnitus too and also when I lay down flat and turn my head to the left I get severe dizziness - I don't know if this is related though!
I'm hoping ent can explain what it is but then again they might just want to suction my ear and send me on my way!

I hope someone can explain or has had similar as it's really affecting me now I'm sick of being in pain!
Normal otc paracetamol doesn't touch it only codeine helps with the pain

Could it be your TMJ?

Spottysausagedogs · 19/03/2021 07:10

I just posted this in another headache thread but thought it might apply to you too, I had facial, eye, jaw pain and upper teeth discomfort. Good luck I hope it helps.

If you think it might be sinus related, seriously consider buying a saline sinus rinse bottle. I got one recently and despite feeling really reluctant as I thought it would hurt and be a disgusting experience (it was neither of those!), it has cured my chronic winter headache in just a few uses. I now recommend it to everyone but I can see people are as reluctant as I was for the same reasons. Worth a try though, it may be your saviour for £10

Tmj I have flare ups

whatisthispain · 20/03/2021 07:52

I've had a look at trigeminel and don't think it's that as it's not shooting pains and doesn't get set off with touch.
I've woke up this morning with face ache again, also my jaw joint is hurting so I'm not sure if it's sinus related or tmd!

I have type 1 and 2 trigeminal neuralgia on both sides of my face. It sounds very similar.

Triggers can be lying on my face, going from outside to in (change of temperature), eating, talking, steam from shower etc...

It might be worth speaking to gp and explaining symptoms.

If it’s in the morning I wonder if you’re grinding your teeth in your sleep ?

TabbyStar · 20/03/2021 08:17

I have some of these symptoms, though mainly on one side, occasionally the other feels a bit weird, and have had many tests. I was told I had trigeminal neuralgia, but I don't have shooting pains and the symptoms don't really fit type 2 either, and paracetamol helps to get rid of it, which it isn't supposed to for nerve pain. I decided mine was mainly stress / tension / positiinal, though a physio said my jaw was opening a bit wonkily too, and also I have a bit of a droopy eyelid on one side so I think I'm raising my brow to compensate, which is pulling things out of place. There's also a classification of something like atypical facial pain that they give when they can't work out what it is! It's so frustrating to get to the bottom of though as it falls between ENT, neurology, dentist, ophthalmology, and max fac and no one seems to want to look at the bigger picture.
