Ds has just been diagnosed with this (Following on from my weekend threads of high temp and mystery rash!). I have been given a bit of info from the hospital, but don't really understand where he got it from, is it genetic? I'd be grateful for any info or links.

I remember seeing a child with this as a nurse. He made a full recovery but had huge grape like bruising which looked very dramatic for a couple of weeks.

Hope he is feeling a little better Monkeybar. How old is he?

Try this: we don't know the exact cause but it's often linked to a recent upper respiratory tract infection.

I think my SIL had this when she was a toddler. Apparently it was very painful and the only person she would let pick her up was a male nurse with huge hands. PIL said that othe parents on the ward gave them evil stares as SIL looked like she had been beaten because of the rash/bruising. Mind you, all this was 30 years ago.

He is 27 months. He didn't have a (noticeable) respiratory tract infection, but had a temp spike on Saturday and the rash appeared on Sunday. Took him to the GP Monday, who said it was a post viral rash. Yesterday he started limping and the rash was worse and there were blisters (which looked a bit like chicken pox). I went back to the same GP, who sent us to hospital, where they kept us in last night as no one was too sure what it was and they needed a urine sample to assess whether his kidneys were affected. All in all, we've had a rubbish few days!
He seems a lot brighter today, but is still limping a bit. The spots do look awful, and I'm concerned that the ones on his face might scar, although he's on Fluclox, so I'm hoping that won;t happen?

You're welcome Monkeybar! My DD2 had it years ago aged 3(she is 13 now) and is fine, and I've seena fair few patients with it also who all made good recoveries so in all likelihood so will your DS!
