Hi, I'm 6 months pregnancy and already have a 21 month old DS. I'm suffering really bad backache, all over my back, partly from still having to lift my son. I really feel a good pregnancy massage or some physio or osteopathy would help. Can anyone recommend anyone/where in west/north/central london?
What did you find helped your back pains during pregnancy? I've just bought a support belt.
Thanks! MM.

try active birth centre in holloway, they used to have a very good cranial osteopath called elizabeth and am sure even if she not still there they'll have others to recommend.

i am also 6 months and having awful time with back, seeing a chiropractor (but east london now so wrong area for you) twice a week which helping a bit, and wearing support belt for sitting/driving, and doing lots of pilates to strengthen back and abdominals (though been doing it for 6 years so had rather hoped i might have been in better shape than average - apparently not!). i also do lots of yoga, which have stopped as according to chiropractor its worst possible thing for pregnant bad back as makes the joints even looser and less supportive...

I go to a chiropractor regularly (in Putney so may be too far south for you). They have a pregnancy massage person too who I intend to see later on (I'm only around 4.5 months at the moment).

Thank you LS and lemonaid.
I guess I should check out local chiropractors then. Just out of interest lemonaid where is yours plus the preg massage in Putney?
LadySanders thanks for tip.
Bit gutted to hear about the yoga thing though as that's the one exercise I continue to enjoy doing through pregnancy. Are you saying I should stop if I want my back to improve? Oh dear... My local swimming pool is shut too so I can't even do that.
Anyone with any chiropractor/massage/osteopath tips for bad backs?

I see Amadea at Ealing Optimum Health clinic, she specialises in treating pregnant/postnatal women and babies - 0208 998 8873 www.ealingosteopath.com
I can very much recommend her!

hi,

im 12 weeks pregnant with my 2nd, and the last few weeks have been suffering with my back. it started as my lower back/bum if I sit in the same position for more than 30mins.

but today its spread and is now up the centre of my back up to my shoulder. I've got a feeling it isn't helped by the fact I am still having to pick up and carry my LB who is 19mnths.

is there anything anyone can recommend?
pregnancy support pillows,
osteopath
massage
chiropractor
heat packs
ice packs

anything please, cant bear to think I have another 6months of this. I also work from home 4days a week so am often sitting at a table/desk with a laptop.

thanks in advance

I'm a pre-natal massage therapist and I've never heard that yoga is bad during pregnancy. Many of my clients go to pregnancy Yoga and Pilates and all state that it aids their aches and pains, which I fully support. Some of my clients do the pregnancy yoga and pilates because it was recommended by their GP. I know there are some yoga moves that shouldn't be done but the teacher will know this. Agree that swimming is great option!

@HAB2012 definitely a good idea to see someone asap, the longer its left the worse it gets. Many women come to me once they hit their 3rd trimester and I always wish they'd come for treatments sooner.

You'll be able to find a qualified prenatal massage therapist in your local area online. This is usually a much cheaper option than seeing an Osteopath or Chiropractor, and often all you need to help postural aches, general pregnancy aches and pains and muscle tension.
If you've had/have a back injury or you have a medical condition or very severe pain/numbness then definitely see someone medically trained.
Or you could see your GP who may refer you to a physio.
