Minimally - invasive bunion surgery, how long does it take to recover?

So I've been putting off doing anything about my bunion for years now as I've heard so many horror stories about the length of time for recovery. Its just getting to the point that its causing me pain every day and I think I need to bite the bullet and do something about it. I did a bit of research on the internet and was encouraged to find out about the minimally invasive surgery which allows for a faster recovery time (apparently). I'm very into my gym/ running etc and so would love to be back to doing those things as soon as possible.
Has anyone had experience of this surgery that wouldn't mind sharing with me how long it took to recover and their experiences etc, thank you.

Bumping for you OP because I'm a fellow bunion sufferer & would be interested to hear about this too.

I had mine done twenty years ago in my late thirties, as my feet were really bad and I could hardly get any shoes on.

I was told I couldn't drive until I felt safe emergency braking, so it was around five weeks. The physio told me feet were the only time they encouraged people to sit still with their feet up as it was the only way to get the blood flow to the feet to heal them properly.

It was about three weeks before I could walk without crutches, I had my feet wrapped for a couple of weeks.

I think it was about three months before I could go for a proper couple of hours walk, not just a wander.

I am still very, very glad I had it done. I have no pain, and (although I don't run) I'm very fit and do plenty of exercise.

Thank you that's good to know. Was that with the keyhole surgery?

@LactoseTheIntolerant did you move forward with treatment?

Interested to hear your experience if you did.

LactoseTheIntolerant · 06/08/2021 08:03

@Reflections2021 yes I did. I am now around 10 weeks post op. It was really good, bandages were on for 2 weeks but I was still able to hobble around and do exercise not involving my foot. Once bandages were off I started going back to the gym and by 6 weeks post op I was running on it again. I would recommend this type of surgery if your having a bunion op the recovery time was much faster and I didn't have any pain. I don't know where your based but if you'd like my consultants details feel free to Dm me.

@LactoseTheIntolerant sorry to jump on an old thread but just wondered how you were getting on now? Also, did you have this done as keyhole in Harley street? Thanks so much!
