“Floaters” in front of eyes

I’ve been suffering from headaches, high blood pressure and lots of floaters before my eyes. Various appointments later and the doctor has put me on amitriptyline for the headaches and amlodiline then Ramipril for my BP but despite numerous eye tests & a visit to the hospital, I’m still experiencing the floaters to such a degree that it’s impacting on my day and ability to drive. I’ve also had a very recent MRI which confirmed a large CSF-filled space but nothing of concern. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Your brain just needs time to learn to filter them out. It's a gradual process but it will happen. There is a few of us on here with them

Thanks for the reply. It’s a bit disheartening to know there’s nothing really I can do about it. Ahh well.

I have a LOT of floaters- many are like spiders webs that float across my line of vision. I’m very short sighted (-9.50 both eyes) and the optician said they’re harmless but common in those with short sight especially as we get older. I was extremely depressed about them for a long time but gradually I have got used to them and now they don’t bother me like they did. The optician has said to me that in extreme cases they will refer you for a vitrectomy - where they remove the jelly from the eye and replace it with fluid but this carries a risk of retinal detachment during the operation (which I am at risk of anyway being so short sighted) so I declined his offer to be referred (on the NHS).

You really do stop noticing them after a while. The more you think about them, the more you ‘see’ them.

I’ve had them for as long as I can remember in fact I was surprised to learn that lots of people don’t have them.

Thank you both for your replies - it always helps to know you’re not alone. I wonder if it’s because now the children are back at school and I’ve been laid off from work that I have the time to notice it more than usual? The opticians told me it gets worse with age too :-(
