Mid 30's and stroke

Hi all hoping someone has some experience - I'm in mid 30s and had a stroke yesterday.

I have definitely improved over night (able to talk and walk again and right had catching up) and am now waiting got MRI and doctor etc. Brain feels quite fizzy though.

I am also the lightest I have even been and I've never been so fit, I don't understand what I've done wrong!

Has anyone got any experience? I'm petrified!

My husband had a stroke in his 30s. Like you he had no risk factors and was/is a healthy weight, non smoking, teetotaller. It was really scary at the time and he was poorly for a little while. He recovered quickly and back to work in 6 weeks. His consultant said that his age was a really big factor in his recovery.

It’s now about 6 years on and he is mostly fine. He gets tired a bit quicker and occasionally gets random pains. But no paralysis or big deficits. He’s on meds for life. To meet him you’d have no idea.

You’re going to experience a hell of a lot of emotions over the next few weeks. Remember to give yourself a break and take it easy. Having a stroke doesn’t mean life as you know it is over. You’ve done nothing wrong and being scared is completely normal. Stroke treatment is the best it’s ever been and the hospital will take really good care of you.

Sending lots of internet hugs Flowers if you have any questions I’ll do my best to answer them.

I have a friend who had a stroke in her 30s; no obvious health issues.

She was very shaky for quite a while - lost confidence , physically weakened, but she got rehab and unless she is very tired you would never know ( sometimes when tired she loses her words)

So sorry you are going through this, probably with little access to your support network. Once the testing etc is done, ask if the hospital has a stroke nurse who can talk to you & hopefully reassure you.

Be patient with yourself as it will take a bit of time.💐

Thank you both these are very useful. I'm waiting on the MRI test, the doctor things there is a small change it's some sort of rare migraine but I'm trying to not think about it too much

How are you feeling today @larrythelizard

Was it definitely a stroke? Have you had this confirmed or are you still waiting on the diagnosis?

I had a seizure in the street about 5 years ago when I was in my mid 20s. Initial CT scans said it was a stroke and they sent me to the stroke unit of a major hospital. I had a lot of tests and it came back that actually, I had a brain tumour, which made a lot more sense given I was young, healthy, bmi of 18, never smoked etc. The brain tumour journey has been interesting, but yeah, definitely not a stroke.

Also regardless of what happens, you haven't done anything "wrong" ... Life just happens like that sometimes and from experience, once you know what it definitely is, it becomes so much easier.

I had a stroke 2 years ago when I was 25. I was in hospital for only 4 days, I had a slight facial drop which I couldn't even see only the consultant could tell, my eye sight got worse on my right side (my stroke side), I'm generally just a bit slower than I was before but I still function well as a mum of 2 children and 4 dogs. Its effected me most emotionally, I had and still have really bad anxiety because of it.

I was scared too but a remember a stroke is different for everyone. I had an mri then was put on blood thinners for life, but that was pretty much it. Had follow up appointments of course but nothing changed in those appointments.
Please try not to think the worse and take each day as it comes.

I had a mini stroke at 30 (and 37 weeks pregnant)

I can't remover much, I can remember DH sobbing beside my hospital bed though. He's the least emotional person I know so it really hit me how scared he was. I was out with eldest DD at the time and phoned DH for help who rushed me to the hospital. By the time we got to hospital I couldn't walk/talk etc.

They took me to maternity first and they kept trying to talk to me and after that my next memory is him sobbing.

My MRI Showed I'd had a historic mini stroke to.

I've had no obvious long term affects but DD was induced a week later after she stopped growing. She has some medical issues now all feeding related and has an unsafe swallow so is tube fed. I tend to forget about having had a stroke but when I do I feel guilt that it could have been that which caused DDs issues.

I was pretty fit and healthy so it was a bit of a shock.

How are you feeling today?

Hi all, sorry have been off my phone. Brain scan was clear and the working assumption is that it was a Hemiplegic migraine but a pretty severe one as I couldn't move or talk or read or write for just over 24 hours.

Got a follow up appt with a neurologist to have some more tests.

So grateful to have recovered from most of the side effects but still very headachey and tired!

I had a strok when I was 30, full left side paralysis. CT scan the next day apparently was clear so was eventually put down as a migraine. Recent mri for neurological issues showed it was a stroke I had 10 years ago! I'm now on aspirin.

Interestingly though, I was diagnosed after a positive genetic test with familial hypercholesterolemia a few years ago after a nurse realised I had chronic high bp and a family history of premature death from strokes and heart attacks.
