dd2 is on day 3 of very loose nappies (approx 6/day), how long would you leave it before asking for advice?

just to elaborate a bit more, she has a rare skin condition which one of the side effects of is diahorrea, for the past 6 weeks she has been on new meds which had got her poos back to normal, 1/day and solidish.

i'm hoping this is just a tummy bug and not her meds stopping working, which is why i wondered how long a regular tummy bug diahorrea should last.

is she weeing as well? if so, I would leave it another day or two. if not you maybe need advice sooner, or more rehydration salts at least.

We've just had this with dd2, who's almost 1. I took her to GP on fifth day of 8-10 poos per day (she had no temp, didn't seem ill - just tired/pale, had a cold at the start of it) and he said to give her acidophilus or Activia Yoghurt over the weekend, then bring in a stool sample if she still had the runs on Monday - which would have been the 8th day.

I also posted here, and found out that diarrhoea bugs can last a week - though its not as usual as 2-3 days. If she doesn't seem ill, I'd wait another couple of days...but if you're worried about the meds/skin condition, is there a specialist or GP who knows about it you can phone for advice?

Like you, I was hoping it was a bug and not something else...fingers crossed for you!

thanks

will leave it for now and if still bad will try phoning gp to ask advice, they are normally quite good over the phone.

How is she today Katz? Any better from yesterday?

Katz · 09/11/2007 14:40

still pooing for England!

phoned GP who said keep an eye on her and if not better by monday then get a sample [nice] and they'll get it analysed, if that comes back negative then we have to go back to the Childrens to talk to the gastointerologist, and see if the drugs have stopped working. My 'mum' sensor makes me think its a bug and not the masto, but hey will have to wait it out and see.

see you later
