My ear is blocked with wax resulting in tinnitus and I can't get it syringed - any tips!

I've been using warm olive oil morning and night for 4 or 5 days. I've also tried lying on a warm hot water bottle and been using the high pressure setting on the shower to try and dislodge the wax but to no avail.
Any tips as it's driving me mad!

Personally I have one of the earwax removers that look like a corkscrew. It’s great, better than anything else particularly if you’ve already softened the wax. You just need to be a bit careful and follow the instructions!

BungleandGeorge · 08/03/2021 17:28

Usually olive oil is 4 times a day so that might be why it’s persistent!

skylarkdescending · 08/03/2021 17:30

DH has just dislodged his by using otex ear drops and syringe. Took a few days for the wax to soften first.

LemonadeBudget · 08/03/2021 17:30

My DH bought a syringe off Amazon and did his own. Probably a hundred reasons why this is not advisable but hey, needs must. And you should have seen what came out Shock

Whatwhyhowwherewho · 08/03/2021 17:31

Do you have a bath in your house? Nice hot bath, lie back & stick your head under the water and gently pull your earlobe for several mins. If the wax is soft enough it can encourage it to start coming out. If that doesn’t work use this www.boots.com/boots-pharmaceuticals-dual-action-ear-wax-remover-10114200 then try the bath trick again.
4/5 days isn’t really long enough though. I syringe ears and we say a week minimum, preferably 2 weeks. Put the oil in then stick your head on the side for 10/15 mins and massage your ear to encourage the oil down. Do not put cotton wool in, it sucks the oil up meaning it doesn’t get near the wax.
The people we always have to have back for a second attempt because it’s too hard to remove have never used enough oil for long enough! Good luck.

Buy a squirty thing from amazon. Smile

ValpolicellaPrimitivo · 08/03/2021 17:32

I also used the otex drops and water syringe, worked well.

Book in for microsuction. Specsavers do it. It is fabulous.

Starch1e · 08/03/2021 17:35

Book a private microsuction appointment.

Beecham · 08/03/2021 17:36

I paid for ear wax microsuction last year, it's the best £80 I've ever spent. Just checked and my local clinic is open! So it's worth checking if you have something similar near you

Chosennone · 08/03/2021 17:36

Private microsuction. Cost me 65 quid and felt like an eargasm! Loved it

Beaniecats · 08/03/2021 17:37

Syringe off Amazon diy job

BrownOwlknowsbest · 08/03/2021 17:39

If you can get to a pharmacist ask for one of the ear wax removers which contain hydrogen peroxide they are usually better at shifting wax than just olive oil. Also, you can buy-do-it-yourself syringes designed for clearing ears at home. They have a soft nozzle which prevents them going to far into the ear. Hope you manage to clear it soon, I know how uncomfortable blocked ears can be.

Janaih · 08/03/2021 17:41

I had this a few weeks ago, Otex drops did the trick. Ordered a syringe online but didn't need it by the time it arrived.

Notthisnotthat · 08/03/2021 17:41

My mum got her ears "hoovered", the guy came to her house to do it while the doctors surgery was closed. Was about £55 (we are Scotland though so things tend to be cheaper here).

DogsAreShit · 08/03/2021 17:43

Yes go private. NHS do fuck all about this but private clinics are open.

Used this.on DH after watching many YouTube videos and it was glorious. Two giant golden nuggets and completely clean ear canals. Was one of the most satisfying moments of married life 🤣

Can I ask how you know it is due to ear wax? I have terrible tinnitus at the moment and this didn't actually occur to me.

Alexandernevermind · 08/03/2021 17:54

Candling is fun in a weird kind of way. Ask as a health food shop if they recommend anywhere.

Candling is ineffective at best, harmful at worst.

@Gerla
"Can I ask how you know it is due to ear wax? I have terrible tinnitus at the moment and this didn't actually occur to me."

I don't know for certain but the fact that I can't hear anything other than the ringing sound suggests that it is blocked.
