Threadworm night two... send help! Hysterical DS

Last night at 6pm ds age 5 started complaining of a sore itchy bottom. I had a look and could see a threadworm straight away. Went and got ovex which we all took at 7pm. He finally fell asleep at 11pm after hours of crying in distress.
Tonight its started again at 6pm. Its now almost 9pm and he is hysterical. screaming like I've never known, it's clearly driving him insane.
Today I bathed him first thing, I've then spent from 9am till 4pm deep cleaning the entire house. Hot washed all bedding and towels, wet dusted, vacuumed, teddies in the wash, anti bacd all hard toys.
Showered his bum before bed, slapped vaseline on AND gave him Piriton. And here we are again 😪 how long for the ovex to work? I honestly thought we would be okay tonight.
He has been at school throughout lockdown but has been so excited for all his friends going back tomorrow it's breaking my heart, he is exhausted but cannot sleep! Can't send him in if this ends up being night 2 of just 6 or 7 hours sleep.
Any help/advice?!

Bless him. You could try removing the worst offenders if you haven't already? Shine a torch at his bottom, and when they pop up to investigate the light, wipe them away with a tissue. That may take away the worst of the itch until the Ovex works.

Hi @Whatafool123. Thank you for responding. I've tried that, with tissue and even a cotton bud. Not long taken him out of a cool bath. I've never seen him like this! Wish I could take it away Sad

I used to give Calpol which seemed to help. My DD always said it hurt rather than felt itchy which is what i always thought it would be like. Anyway, the Calpol always seemed to have an effect. I think she had worms about 3 times when she was at pre-school. I reckon they lived in the sandpit. Grim.

Do you have sudocreme? Dd always said that helped as it tingled which took away some of the discomfort. We used to put loads on. And yes to calpol. Poor him. I remember it well with dd and it’s so horrible when they’re so upset.

Bless - the ovex took 2 nights to work for mine, washed everything etc & put vaseline on ( I'm not talking a small amount & big blob) we used nurofen as well at the night - good luck

@Esmerelda01

Hi get in contact with your doctors surgery by tel, for a appointment with the nurse or Doctor
to have a reply back later from
a doctor to give you advice about which products will be effective.

You could instead,
vist a local pharmacy to get advice about your child health issue and buy their products op.

It'll take a couple of days. It's the glue they use that causes the intense itching. Is he too little to use a baby wipe when it's itchy?

Play it down to him though, he could be slightly freaked at the thought which makes things worse.
