Do you know if Seasonally Affective Disorder (SAD) can affect memory? Mine is just shot to pieces at the moment, and it has just occured to me that I saw the doctor this time last year, to ask for thyroid tests, as it was very bad then.

I think it has been better inbetween, but I can't really remember!!

I can smile, but it is really starting to affect my lifestyle. Daren't google dementia, but I do wonder sometimes . . . !

My son has this. I bought him a light box and it really helped. Then, however, when he felt better in the spring he went and sold it and I am now in the process of buying another one.

It took me a couple of years to work out what was wrong with him, and once we got the light box the improvement was dramatic. And yes, memory, energy, motivation and mood were all very much affected.

My husband gets SAD.

We got a light box, which my mum has at the moment. Our light box instructions recommended that you should use it during the day when it is naturally light. Using it at night is not so good for your body clock. Of course dh is at work during the day.

For him, exercise is a good substitute. Unfortunately when he's down he doesn't want to exercise, so he normally gets fat in the winter. I'm onto this year. I'm going remind him when he looks grumpy to exercise. Wish us luck, it's never worked before but he wants to beat this so hopefully he will.

Oh thank you. Any recommendations as to brands of SAD box most welcome. I'll definitely try one.

Where do you buy the lightboxes from?

Elibean · 06/11/2007 15:35

My dh has it, has had it for years, tried lots of lightboxes (well, maybe 3) over that time....will ask him! The one he has now is tiny, easy to use (he reads while he's doing it) and only requires short periods of use. Probably pricey though, dh is a gadget fiend

Hi Littlegoldfish

If you google SAD on UK Sites there are lots of adverts for them which pop up.
