Always freezing cold

Brondie319 · 06/03/2021 18:53

This might sound like nothing, but recently my whole body is so cold. My hands and feet are like ice.
Heating is always on of course but i can never seem to warm up.
My husband literally wont let me put my hands on him now unless i run my hands under the hot tap first.. No joke.
Do you think there could be a reason for this?
I've lost over 5 1/2 stone in just under 12 months through dieting and exercise, could this have anything to do with it?
Seems quite trivial really so i don't want to bother my gp.. But i'm so flipping cold.

Could be a lot of things, but I’d want to rule out hypothyroidism

BertieBotts · 06/03/2021 18:57

What temperature is your thermostat/heating set to or what temp are your rooms with a thermometer?

Losing weight can cause you to feel the cold more. I'm quite slim and I tend to be cold at home unless it's at least 22C, I usually sit under a blanket! I am OK with 20C if I'm walking around doing things, but if I'm sitting still, 22+ and preferably 23-25.

Underweight?
Dehydrated?
Underactive thyroid?

Brondie319 · 06/03/2021 19:11

Most definitely not underweight, I'm 10st now and 5ft7 tall. So a decent weight. House is warm enough, everyone in the house is fine and walk around happily in tshirts and no socks 🙈
Im here in my T-shirt, jumper and dressing gown and still have goosebumps

I would question thyroid . But I got some bloods done recently for underactive thyroid as I'm also always cold but came back normal. But it has been bloody cold!!!

Fairydustrust · 06/03/2021 19:18

You definitely feel the cold more when you are slimmer. Are you eating healthily? Maybe try iron tablets. Congratulations on the weight loss.

AuditAngel · 06/03/2021 19:20

You could also be anaemic

ParadiseIsland · 06/03/2021 20:07

Bottom is it IS a good enough reason to check with your GP!! Esp as this is something new

FWIW for me, being cold is a sign that I’m exhausted

Melange99 · 06/03/2021 20:34

Do you go a long time between meals? A lot of the time I eat a light lunch and a bigger dinner with nothing else. I start to feel really cold from 4pm onwards. If I have larger meals/snacks it doesn't happen.

Brondie319 · 06/03/2021 22:51

Thank you all for your input 😊
I can sometimes go a while between meals but not overly drastic x

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Spoke to my GP and he's booked me in for some bloods of Friday morning 😊

@Brondie319 Well done for your weight loss btw! I read once that if you consistently eat a very low fat diet that it can make you feel cold - try eating some good fats like avocados and see if it makes a difference...

The best way to warm up for the day is to have a hot shower in the morning rather than at night as it warms you up all over. Try putting your clothes on the radiator before getting dressed as this will automatically make you feel cosy...

How old are you, OP?
I went from hot person to cold person in my mid30s.
Exercise warms me up.
