Harmless Ringworm?

WormingAround · 05/03/2021 14:05

DH has ringworm confirmed by doctor. It’s in the centre of his chest.
Didn’t think anything of it until my DM said “oh my goodness how has he managed to get that it’s spread by skin to skin contact”.

Myself, DD and DSS do not have it.
DSS is in school (mum is keyworker) and DH sometimes plays football outside.

Is there a harmless explanation of how he’s caught it? I don’t have much knowledge of skin/fungal infections

Thank you

Do you have pets?
I've had ringworm but don't know how I got it and noone else got it from me

I had it during lockdown last year. I had definitely not had skin to skin contact with anyone apart from DH and DC. I was the only one who had it in our family and I've not idea how I got it. It did go with some cream from drs but it did take about 2 weeks to go completely.

I’ve just finished treatment for ringworm and I didn’t get it from anyone in my household, I have no idea how I got it, we don’t have pets either

It’s hugely contagious and can be caught from other people. Animals or objects such as towels, bed sheets etc. It’s easily treated though

And very rarely can catch it from soil

Thank you for your comments, makes me feel a bit better!

I had it on my calf having being flea bitten there (bloody cat)

It definitely is not caused my skin to skin contact.

I caught it from the bedding in a holiday cottage I stayed in.

It was literally on the side of my neck where you lie on the pillow

The bedlinen appeared clean but there was this horrible musty smell in the bedroom. I left the windows open and sprayed perfume etc around but it wouldn't go. it was only on the third day or so that I took the pillow cases off to discover the actual pillow itself was minging - stained and smelly with lord only knows what sort of bacteria and whatnot living in it.

It can be caused by skin to skin contact... it can be caught from animals... it can be caught from towels/ bed linen etc... and (rarely) even from soil. It is a fungal infection and is very easily treated with an anti fungal topical cream. If anyone in your hone has it, wash their towels/ bed linen etc on a hot wash. It’s not as uncommon as you might think OP!

I worded my post incorrectly.

What I meant what is isn't exclusively caused by skin to skin contact.

It can of course be caused by that, as well as other things.

In my case it was dirty bedding in a holiday let.
