Private dentist

I find it so stressful trying to find an NHS dentist in my area, so I think I'm going to go private. My question is what do you think is the best way to pay for it? Should I get dental insurance? A Denplan (I don't fully understand what that is)? Or just pay the dentist as needed? What do you do?

I pay as I go.

Check up is around £45. Small scale and polish with the dentist is about £20, again about £45 if you have the hygienist. I had 2 xrays last week that were £18 for both. Fillings are around £100 to £150, depending on if you have metal or white fillings.

Root canal was the most expensive thing I've ever had done, around £400 for a large molar.

@missbridgerton Thanks. That doesn't sound too expensive. Assuming I don't need loads of work done when I first go (haven't been to the dentist in a couple of years). Hopefully I can find one that's reasonably priced (and also kind and a good dentist - I have really struggled with dentists in the past).

I used to have Denplan but didn't think it was particularly good value. There are various different price levels as I recall. It's certainly worth looking into, but I prefer PAYG.

Prices will depend on where you are but the dentist will be able to give you an indication. A check up round here (South East) is £50, scale and polish around £60, X Ray around £15, fillings start at £100, a crown is £600 or so.
