Hi, so came out of the shower, and was drying and my dd came in and said I've got a weird rash on my back, pic attached does anyone know what it could be? Doesn't hurt or anything but have been feeling really tired lately.

The only thing I've had is my 2nd covid jab today?

It looks like livedo reticularis. Sometimes it appears because you're cold (cold shower?). It's also seen in some people with covid, so might possibly be related to your vaccine. However, if it persists, you should see your GP because sometimes it can be a sign of a medical condition that requires treatment.

Thank you @theconstantinoplegardener, i have very hot showers so at first thought it was more like scald ? But doesn't hurt or anything!

I don't think it would be caused by the heat. Have a look in the morning (before your shower) and, if it's still there, check with your GP (since you've also been feeling tired).

par05 · 03/03/2021 07:54

Hi thank you it's still there atm, have to go to work now so will try and message gp.

If it's painless, the difficulty will be knowing how long it's been there - when was the last time anyone saw your back, to say it didn't look like that then?

par05 · 03/03/2021 13:42

Hi @Walkacrossthesand that's the thing have no idea how long it's been there! Dd saw it yesterday, its painless and no one else to see it! The other thing is I do sit by the radiator alot with my back to it and its normally on high!

OP posts:
Walkacrossthesand · 03/03/2021 13:46

That'll be it, I suspect - there's a thing called 'erythema ab ignio' which is where the skin discolours due to repeated contact with heat, without actually burning. The blotchy pigmentation on your photo, and your radiator habit, would fit.
It's unsightly but harmless, I think it will fade if you stop sitting against hot radiators! I see an old scar there too, does the radiator warmth help ease pain?

Walkacrossthesand · 03/03/2021 13:48

Ab igne, sorry, not ignio - just checked!

par05 · 03/03/2021 18:00

Hi yes just eases my back as it feels stiff I'm on my feet all day in work, and first thing I do is sit by the hear when I come back, will def stop that habit now!

OP posts:
Walkacrossthesand · 03/03/2021 18:20

Might be worth getting your DD to take another pic after a couple of radiator-free months, and get it seen by GP if it doesn't look any better- might need a check over by a skin doc.

Haybo26 · 04/03/2021 23:26

I have an electric heat pad that I use on my back for chronic pain. The heatpad causes exactly the same rash/skin pattern as yours so I expect its caused by the heat of the radiator.
