I got this after my second pregnancy, my gp suggested it was because of too much sugar in my diet (I'm fat so she blames everything on my diet and refuses to believe I don't live on junk food). Cutting sugar out didn't seem to help, but I've since gone back on the pill and that seems to have stopped it.

Yes call the GP! I had this after DC1 and was given a week long course of pessaries which cleared it up. Also might be worth thinking about your diet, too much sugar/carbs can cause thrush (diabetes can cause persistent thrush). I hope you get it sorted as it’s miserable x

What sanitary products are you using? Could be worth trying something else. I get terrible thrush with tampons and some pads.

UnsureOfNC · 02/03/2021 09:50

Thanks everyone, will ring GP. I wouldn't say i have to much sugar and have recently stopped drinking fizzy drinks all together but maybe a few too many carbs Grin, also using always night pads and tampax pearl. Might give a different brand a try! I'm on the waiting list for the coil aswell so hopefully once i get that, no more periods!!!

Reusable pads made the world of difference when I had this. Tampons and ultra absorbent pads made it much worse.

What brand do you use? if you don't mind me asking

Have you tried something apart from just the creams.
The creams aren't the best. Sometimes the thrush can be quite persistent. A think to try would be the pessaries or the oral capsule.
With the capsule you can try one a week for max 6 weeks. Or the same with pessaries. Sometimes the creams dont get rid of it completely. Obviously this would be quite expensive.

OP I use these reusables but I think a lot of the random unbranded ones on Amazon are very similar.

I also like Cheeky Wipes period pants - incredibly comfy.

Tampons and pads always gave me thrush. Now awaiting my 5th and final mirena coil and haven't had a period in 20 years.

cretelover · 02/03/2021 10:11

Are you certain it's thrush? I had the same and was sure it was it, but a swab at the docs came back negative. It was from using the sanitary pads /tampons and especially washing with soap. I switched to reusable sanitary protection and only wash with water at the end of a shower and I never get it any more.

Jackparlabane · 02/03/2021 10:21

I'd also suspect the tampons and possibly pads. Try a cup or just pads (ideally washable) and see if that helps.

TheSockMonster · 02/03/2021 10:26

Rather anecdotal, but I switched to a combination of menstrual cup and period pants and haven’t had thrush since.

I have very similar to these and other cheapy ones. Bamboo is very absorbent and charcoal good for odour control :) just toss them in the machine and good to go again for next time!
UnsureOfNC · 02/03/2021 11:31

I'm pretty sure it's thrush, waiting for the gp to ring me back now. Thanks everybody, i'm going to have a look for the period pants and a cup, i've been thinking about one for a while but i have very heavy periods and wasn't sure if it would be any good!

Did you get your results back OP?

UnsureOfNC · 15/03/2021 20:38

@cretelover

Did you get your results back OP?
They said it certainly sounds like thrush, won't do any swabs or anything as it's the first time in nearly a year since i've had it...... as i was pregnant and had no bloody period!!! So if it happens again next month ring againHmm
