Unusually short period while on the combined pill???

I have been on the combined pill for a year and half following the birth of dd2 (was on it before ttc too). This month my 'period' bleed was a day later than usual and lasted only 2.5 days rather than the usual 6. It was also a lot lot lighter than normal . Should I be concerned at all? If so what about? Could I be pregnant? I have taken all my pills at the right time etc so that is unlikely isn't it?
What do you think?
TIA

This is what mine were like on the combined pill.

Always 2-3 days in the middle of the 7 day break.

Now I am off it, I get 5-7 day periods...

It's just the artificial hormones, what you are having now isn't a true period as such, so I was told.

It sounds like 'breakthrough bleeding' which isn't uncommon with combined pill. AFAIK its not a problem as such, other than the inconvenience. If it happens too often check with GP - may be that different pill would suit you better now.

Thanks for the replies. It isn't breakthrough bleeding Emsmum as it is during my pill free week so I was expecting a bleed, just more of one.
Sandcastles - Were they always like that? I usually have the six days even when on the pill......

Skyler that sounds normal. Pill "periods" are actually withdrawal bleeds and over time the endometrium(lining) becomes thinner and so the bleed is lighter and shorter.
What I usually suggest is that you check a pregnancy test to reassure yourself if you need to-the combined pill is not 100% effective even if you take it regularly. However it is far more likely that it is a pill effect and is therefore completely harmless. If you wait a few cycles you will probably see a pattern emerging. It is not necessary to have a period every month-as long as you take the pill assiduously. Some women do feel happier with seeing that "period" though so if that is the case, you will need to see your GP or a Family Planning Clinic to discuss a change.
I hope that helps.

Thank you. I don't feel that I am pregnant or anything, but I have a tendancy to ignore these sort of things and I am trying to be more responsible ha ha. I have noticed (starting my new pack today) that I need to go and get another prescription anyway so I will be able to dicuss it with my doc then. I hadn't realised I was due another check up already .
Thanks for your reassurances. It is good to hear a few opinions .
