My mum had one in each leg and has been getting treatment for them for about 4 weeks now, she has gone back to the Dr's this morning as they now think one of them is on the move, she isnt saying much but she seems a little worried, i dont know anthing about them really but her 'not saying much' makes people worry more! Can anyone give me any info, how serious they are etc??? She is 68 btw. TIA x

DVT if not caught can become Pulmonary Embolisms (ie move to lungs and this is when they can become potentially life threatening)
HOWEVER, DO NOT PANIC ...

If she has been treated i assume she has been on Warfarin for these past 4 weeks?

why do they think things have changed? Has she been getting breathless or getting chest pains?

what advice have they given her so far?

i was just going to say what ruby said

With 4 weeks of treatment her blood should be thinned down now so any clots moving will hopefully not cause too many problems.
If she becomes unwell chest pain shortness of breath, dizziness then 999.

i had a dvt and remember being concerned about the same thing - that once you are on warfarin and discharged from hospital, what is to stop the clot, or bits of it, moving up to the lungs? The doctors didn't seem too concerned about this at all though.

I suppose she has been told about the symptoms of a pulmonary embolism? (pain in chest, cough, breathlessnes, bloody sputum???). the doctors can scan her veins to see where the clot has got to, and presumably she has been sent to the hospital for this?

She said her GP told her to go in and see him this morning as she was having 'a pain' altho she didnt specify where, and she sounded ok in herself so im sure it cant have been any serious pain. She has been on warfarin for 4 nearly 5 weeks, and so im sure that will be doing its stuff by now, i love her to bits but she is always very elusive with the level of severity of things, she's one of these people that thinks she's in danger of a brain tumour because she has had a headache all day, so its very difficult to assess the situation. My step-dad is worried but obviously has the same problem, is it a cause for concern or just something that will go away now its been found and getting treated???

it is usual to have pain after a DVT (for weeks/months)

my legs still ache/hurt 2.5 years on at times

You can also have post thrombotic syndrome (IIRC) which can hurt like hell but is really common.

does she wear support stockings? These really help with the pain
