Started bleeding around ovulation time

I am early 40s, last year I started having some mid cycle bleeding. This seems to be around the time when I should be ovulating. (I track my periods on an ap, and it ties in)

I went to the doctor and had some tests and was told that I would have a gynae referral. Anyway, they forgot to do the referral and I was busy with life. Mid cycle bleeding is now heavier and I asked for another referral. I had a letter, but have heard nothing as yet from the gynae department. (I phoned and apparently the referral is with the consultant)

Anyway has anyone else started to get midcycle bleeding and it all been ok? I am assuming that it is nothing serious otherwise I would have been seen more quickly under the 2w/w.

It has been worse this month, and I am having a bit of a wobble. I am unsure of when to phone the gynaecology department again. I phoned on the 18th February. The letter said not to contact them before the 16. Apparently the waiting time is around 37 weeks in this area, according to the NHS website.

And as my problem is very minor, and probably nothing to worry about. in the grand scheme of things unsure what to do next.

So has anyone started to get mid cycle bleeding? I suspect it could be an age thing. (I am not on any hormonal birth control and I have always had pretty easy periods. Although they are steadily getting a lot more painful)

I had a mid cycle bleed this month. I'm 40. Came back from a run last Friday and have been bleeding since, lots of cramping which I don't normally get and needing a pad so far more than spotting. Feel wiped out too.

Normally like clockwork.

Really worried. Spoke to doctor on phone who said they wouldn't do anything but have a physical apt next week.

Me too... I'm early 30s and started 12 months or so go for a few cycles, never for long 1-2 days. Doctor didn't seem concerned but did say let me know if it continues but then it stopped... I would guess nothing happened for 6 months and it's just started again. Who would be a woman eh?

@quiteathome I was OK on the pill I found it levelled my mood out, but get heavy hair shedding whenever anything happens to my hormones so have been avoiding hormones for that reason. I guess I will have to decide whether to give it a go or just accept I will have to put up with the pain/spotting!

I am thinking it probably won't hurt to give it a go for a couple of months.

Being female is rubbish sometimes.

Final update. Ultrasound was fine. So all well.

I can try the Mirena coil, as the low dose of hormones should make the womb lining thinner and should stop it happening.

Hi op, glad your ultrasound was clear. Was following this thread as am your age and have been having mid cycle bleeding . A polyp was discovered in my ultrasound and it's what's probably causing all this. Also , I found that exercise increases this bleeding, like some others have commented. It's causing me a lot of anxiety even though it s not considered as very serious !

quiteathome · 14/07/2021 10:31

@Rm77 yes the anxiety was real. I also think the underlying health anxiety that we have all lived with for the last year due to Covid hasn't helped.

Anyway I have now asked for an appointment for a coil fitting at my GP. However no routine appointments available for a while, so just got to wait for that.

I don't know if the coil will make a difference, however as my periods are also getting closer together it is worth a try to stop that from happening.

@quiteathome; a friend of mine had the mirena fitted as her periods got very close together and it has improved things as she does not get a period now. I have a feeling my gynae will suggest it to stop the polyps from returning.

quiteathome · 15/07/2021 14:30

@Rm77 Mirena coil seems to be the default option. I will give it a go I think. Although if I wait for the doctors I could be waiting forever.
I am wondering whether to go to the sexual health clinic instead. Will leave until after we have been away.

@quiteathome ; the sexual health clinic might be the quicker route and ..... enjoy your holiday ! Smile
