Palpitations - when to get checked out?

I've been having unpleasant palpitations the last couple of weeks. They happen most days, I think randomly ie not after exercise particularly. They make me cough and gasp a bit for some reason. I have checked my pulse when it happens (by hand) and it feels like my heart is skipping a beats or 2 every 7 or so beats. I know they're not normally a cause for concern...but Im 55, over weight, drink too much, so Im thinking I ought to pass it by the GP? (Im female btw) WWYD?

Yes you should speak to the GP sooner rather than later but, regardless of the cause, they will say to reduce alcohol and lose weight. Alcohol can cause arrhythmia & palpitations btw.

Hopefully they will be able to do BP & ECG and put your mind at rest that there is nothing serious going on but you do need to speak to someone soon.
