Help! Looking for anyone who has experienced a pinched nerve in the HIP

Hi, really sorry if this is the wrong board for a question like this and it's a bit of a long shot but I am seeking out anyone with experience of a severe pinched nerve in the hip. I am really suffering and in severe pain and just wondering what symptoms others may have experienced, how long it lasted and what their treatment entailed. My specialist wants to use me as a pin cushion to do all sorts of nerve blocks and I really don't want that. Thanks!

Hi, just bumping this up to the top. Wondering if anyone out there has ever experienced a pinched nerve in the hip? I need help working out if my symptoms could be related to this, confused by so much on the internet and keen to hear from someone who has experienced this. Thanks!

I haven't heard of a pinched nerve but I've had lots of nerve procedures in my back and severe hip pain.

What makes you not want to try the nerve block?

IWantAllTheDogsInTheWorld · 06/04/2021 18:30

I've just had 3 sessions with a chiropractor for a similar problem. She didn't stick any pins in me but used her thumbs and goodness knows what else to manipulate my back, buttocks and hips. It got a little bit worse before it got better but the most amazing thing was some stiffness in my shoulders, which I've had for nearly 20 years, has been dealt with at the same time, and I can now turn my head without discomfort.

The pain in my hip was so bad I couldn't sit down at all and had to either lay down in one particular position or walk around. It was exhausting.

My regime has been chiropractor, ibuprofen and codeine (at night to help me sleep) and ibuprofen gel.

I wish you the best of luck, you have my sympathy 💐

Thanks both.

@doadeer I saw a neurologist who said he didn't think the pain was coming from my back as it was so widespread i.e. in the groin, outer hip, glute and around the top of my thigh. He said I could try nerve blocks to see if it gave me any relief but that my symptoms couldn't be coming from one nerve route. I had a hip replacement at 52 years old 2 years ago and had a fantastic result, have had it scanned and basically the kitchen sink thrown at it and structurally it still looks fine. Googling (never a good idea) what is could be and a pinched nerve in my hip is the only thing that matches my symptoms hence wondering what other peoples experiences were to see. Do you know the source/what caused your severe hip pain?

IWantAllTheDogsInTheWorld I have seen physios but maybe a chiropractor is worth a shot.

Ah got it!

Yes I had severe pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy, I'm hypermobile and my hips just fell apart (highly technical term) - this then caused so much pressure through lower back it damaged facet joints and I've just had the nerves burned.

I wouldn't underestimate a sports massage or chiropractor - maybe they can do some hands on manipulation to feel the soft tissues etc? Worth a try!

A sports massage from a private physio along with some stretches relieved me of a trapped nerve (in my neck not hip). It wasn't particularly pleasant to go through and I really really hurt for two days after, but the effect of the nerve being trapped (tingling, dead arm) was relieved immediately.
I have never had success with NHS physios, they simply don't have the time or resources to study. A good private physio can often resolve in one or two sessions.
