I found a lump a couple of years ago which was a breast mouse, completely harmless, and left alone.

whomovedmychocolate · 04/11/2007 22:40

You may be jumping the gun a bit. How old are you? I know this is very scary but chances are it's just a lump and nothing more. I've had them and had them removed and each time I had a major panic for nothing. It's normal to worry but being well informed can help. Hang on a sec, I'll find you a good page which won't freak you out.

whomovedmychocolate · 04/11/2007 22:42

Okay, go here, it's explains what the normal treatment route is (ie how they exam you, what happens when etc.)

BTW a breast mouse is a fibroadenoma (a benign cyst basically). Not a tit rodent

ComeOVeneer · 04/11/2007 22:43

I know how scarey it is, but more often than not it is totally benign. I have had 3 lumps removed (the first at 18) and all were non malignant.

ShinyHappyRocketsGoingBANG · 04/11/2007 22:43

Beep, statisically, nine out of ten breast lumps will NOT be cancer. Your odds are very good.

Stay calm. I know it's hard. Have been there. If you ring the hosp and ask for a cancellation if/when they have one, you may get to go sooner.

Keep us posted.

hippipoPANDBANGami · 04/11/2007 22:43

Breathe beep. Hang on to the thought that 9 out of 10 lumps are harmless. You are only at higher risk if you are over 60 or have a family history of breast cancer.

I have had 4 lumps over the past 9 years. Each and every one were benign, even the last one which caused some concern. I had surgery to remove it, it was sent for testing, it was fine.

Please don't worry.

beep · 04/11/2007 22:44

thank you for that link I will have a read of it.I am getting on will be 50 in2 months.I am trying to remain calm and hope that it is nothing serious.

It's quite common for recently menopausal women to get benign breast lumps as well. It's to do with the hormone levels dropping I think.

beep · 04/11/2007 22:55

Ok I will think of it as a mouse doesn't seem so scarey.

Hi beep

My mum had one recently.

She went to hosp, had it aspirated and had the results within an hour - all was clear.

Good luck, let us know x

EachPeachPearMum · 06/11/2007 11:42

Hi all- I'm in the same situation this morning Am on a fast track referral to women's hospital.

Thanks for all this information- search, and mumsnet will provide!

wmmc- you are my age, so I am much less scared now... thank you all for sharing

romeosgirl · 06/11/2007 11:50

i found a lump when I was 24 and turned out to be benign glandular tissue - near my underarm feels like thicker tissue than the rest of it.
Don't worry too much!

cluelessnchaos · 06/11/2007 18:55

How did it go beep?

beep · 06/11/2007 22:04

not good,I've just got home because I went out for a drink after my appointment, with my brothers girlfriend who is a good friend of mine.(could't really bear the thought of acting naturally in front of kids.)

The consultant is pretty sure I have cancer.Ihad an ultra sound and he took some biopsies.I have to go back next wednesday for a mamogram and to see the consultant again,by which time the resultys should be back and they will know what type of breast cancer it is.He said if it comes back asnon-cancerous I wouldn't believe it and would have to do another biopsy.

what a shit, Iwent to the doctor thinking that he would say it's ok don't worry, something went wrong somewhere.

hope he turns out to be wrong but if he isn't I wish you all the luck and strength in the world.

loads of great treatment these days
take care

NorthernLurker · 06/11/2007 22:27

Oh Beep - that is tough. Have you told your family anything - and is someone going back with you next week?
I know this won't be of any comfort to you now but if you do have breast cancer treatment really is better than ever before and you are not alone in this. I don't think you could throw a stick in MN and not hit people who have survived breast cancer or know women who have. I myself know 2 off the top of my head. Like you say you will get there in the end - take care of yourself this week - you've had a shock - rest lots and don't look anything up on online till you know where you stand!

EachPeachPearMum · 06/11/2007 22:29

Oh Beep- lots of {{{{hugs}}}} very sorry for your news.
At least they deal with these things quickly once they know about them.

JoanWilder · 06/11/2007 22:30

loads of love beep X

WendyWeber · 06/11/2007 22:37

beep, {{{hugs}}} - I have been where you are - I also went thinking nah, it'll be nowt (having previously had a mouse)

When it turned out not to be nowt I had lumpectomy, then chemo, then radio. I actually had 2 lumps and they were quite aggressive but we had found them early. The whole thing was not fun, and took about a year out of my life, and was followed up with 3-monthly and then 6-monthly check-ups; but 7 years down the line, touch wood all is well now. (I was 49½ btw)

It was a horrible shock when it first happened and I couldn't speak about it for weeks (DH had to relay messages to people).
