My 10 mo hasn't had any solids for a week while poorly with virus - when should I get worried?

She's better now (symptoms were upper respiratory infection (viral) with high fevers - just since yesterday but she's very chesty and pale and wan looking and gets tired very easily and generally seems to have lower muscle strength (was really going for it with the walker but can now barely drag herself to standing). She's now having 3-4 breast feeds in a 24hr period (was 2 + solids) and is refusing all solids. This has been going on since last sunday. Does this sound about right and when should I be worried?

Personally I wouldn't worry too much right now if she is having the milk. She should start to pick up over the next day or two though if her temp has gone down. Would she pick at a few bits if sat on your knee perhaps? I would offer things that you know she really likes and not worry to much about nutritional balance - the thing is to persuade her to get back into the solids habit. Obviously if you are worried she is very floppy, weak or dehydrated then go straight to doctor. If you are feeding her twice as much as before you could probably do with a healthy chocolate intake as well

Thank you for replying She seems fine in herself now - just as I remember being myself post-viral as a kid!

My nips got so sore that they were beginning to masquerade as aubergines. All better on that front now though - she's already back to 2-3 feeds in 24 hrs and after a very small attempt at breakfast, I'll see how she goes with the rest of the day. I was worried about the nutritional side and you're absolutely right that I should just tempt her back in to eating. I will try that!

Gosh I wouldn't worry about the nutritional side of things. Milk can provide everything they need up to a year.

Yes but of course, that's only true when one is being rational. At all other times, it is false or completely forgotten about

Cheesy beans and baked potato seems to have sparked an interest

Good to hear your lo is back to bouncing health. I think their ailments are harder on us than them a lot of the time!
