Is cranberry considered healthy?

The reason I ask - I bought some cooking cranberries and after some research found out that 400g cranberries require 100 to 150 g of sugar for stuing. I cooked them with 80 g of sugar and they were really sour so i had to add some honey to them. I can't see the way cooking them without sugar so are they considered healthy food? Ta.

Cranberry juice is good for cystitis, but bad for anyone on warfarin.

So it's okay to have sugar when you cook cranberries. Starnge as it ewquires so much of it.

Cranberry juice has lots of added sugar, as do most dried cranberries that you can buy, because they are so sour. I think that fresh, they would probably have lots of vit C, but I guess the amount of sugar that is added when they are cooked would negate most of the nutritional benefits mainly because refined sugar is just empty calories. Also, I'm not sure about this, but I would think that stewing something would probably reduce the nutrional value (maybe kill off most of the vit C for example?). If you are making cranberry sauce to have with a roast, then I would just eat it in moderation. Cranberry sauce is basically jam. You could make it with xylitol which is a much healthier sweetener, less calories than refined sugar and has a much better effect on blood sugar levels.

Thank you, countryhousehotel. It's a pity though as they are supposed to be good for so many things and we can't just eat them fresh and they are so sour so they need some sweetener.
