If a GP refers you to a consultant ,are they informed whether the appointment has gone through as routine or urgent or are they not told anything. Thankyou.

is who informed? The consultant? I would assume the referral letter from your GP would say why they are referring you and how quickly they think you should be seen i.e. if it's a request under the 2 week window for potential cancer cases.

We (GP)decide whether it sounds urgent or not. And send as such. No 2ww in Scotland.
Sometimes the consultant reads the letter and decides it's not urgent and puts it back to routine.
We don't hear if they have an appointment or not

The GP is convinced and concerned I have scleroderma and the consultant has put through as routine. I thought it would go through as urgent Blood results normal. Thanks both for answering.Infomative hearing from a GP.

I think I would trust the consultant. The consultant will be specialised. The GP's only have basic knowledge on certain things

oneboy3girls · 26/02/2021 18:16

Thankyou Reassuring to hear that.

Are the chances that I don't have scleroderma? Any medical people about? Thankyou.

I trust the consultant over the GP. Hope all is okay must still be worrying for you

VerityWibbleWobble · 27/02/2021 13:25

There's different types of scleroderma so maybe the consultant has looked at the symptoms and decided a routine appointment is needed.

What type does the GP suspect?

oneboy3girls · 27/02/2021 15:08

The GP has not said what type .Practising since 1975 ,first case he has ever referred .He is pretty adamant though. Thanks for replies, very appreciated Don't want to delve too deeply on the internet and scare myself .xx
