Stool samples so scared!!

After going to the Dr because my IBS was going off the scale, I kept getting weird stomachs and terrible trapped wind and pain.
I had blood tests and a stool sample done. Blood tests fine, but there was a mix up over stool samples and I had two tested, done 24 hours apart.
First one came back fine, however Dr has phoned me to say the second one is the polar opposite and she can’t even work out how!
I’ve had to do another one, which looks the same as the second one I did (pretty mucusy) and I’m giving it in tomorrow for testing.
That will be the deciding test.

I’m so scared. I’ve already had cancer before (breast) and I’ve always had bowel troubles, but I don’t have symptoms of Crohns

The Dr said last week to stop using fybogel which she felt was irritating my bowel, which I’ve done, and the pain and wind has near enough disappeared, but now I’m terrified it’s cancer.

I had a clear colonoscopy 3 years ago which the Dr said is good, and my bloods are fine, which is also good, but this sample doesn’t look great, so now I’m stressed it’s going to be something.

I have to have a colonoscopy if it’s a rubbish result again.

I already have terrible anxiety from having had cancer so you can imagine how I am right now.

The Dr said this is something she would expect to see with Crohns or Colitis, but my symptoms don’t present as that.

Please someone help to scrape me off the ceiling

Sympathy Flowers it's no surprise your anxiety is through the roof on this.

However even with your history the greatest chance is it's not cancer.

Mucus, wind and pain are classic symptoms of ulcerative colitis (I have it), it's annoying but for the vast majority of people manageable with medication for flares.

It's good that you're getting it checked out and hopefully you will be reassured soon.

Thank you for replying.

The thing is I don’t seem to have the symptoms for Colitis.
I had right sided pains and dreadful wind/smelly bowels. I was waking up with just so much wind. Then every few months something was flaring up, like a stomach bug, with loose stools and feeling unwell, which would last for a few days, then go.
Since I stopped fybogel a week ago all the pain/wind has gone, but I have very mucous stools (sorry TMI)

Hello, I don't have any experience with this, but wanted to sympathise about the anxiety after having cancer. It's completely understandable, but it is your anxiety talking. I'm sure you will be fine, and it's good that they are doing investigations. I know that doesn't help, but you are doing the right thing, and I hope you get answers, sending good vibes

Thankyou. Not everyone gets the anxiety that I suffer with. It can seem really irritating and irrational, but to me it’s not. I have to steel myself up to see a Dr and I can get very panicked over further investigation (like a scan or a camera) and I always veer to worse case scenario x

Oh bless you! No I completely get it, you should come and join us on the health anxiety thread! We are all like that there, and it helps to have somewhere to vent.

I am exactly the same, I previously had cancer around 20 years ago, and if I have any symptom I always jump to worst case scenario.

Skyliner001 · 23/02/2021 20:30

Also completely agree about further investigations, it's like I believe they only can have one outcome. I think it's an understandable anxiety when we've had such a big thing in the past. But it makes it so difficult to even go to the doctor! I recently had to go to the breast clinic, and it knocked me for six.

Hatemyhusband · 23/02/2021 20:39

I did think about going on the health anxiety boards, but thought it would make me worse.
Having had cancer I don’t think of any other illness but cancer, there’s simply no other outcome in my head.
I only had mine 4.5 years ago, it’s still sort of recent and I still think about it every day.

Hope you got on ok at the breast clinic. I find it traumatic to go there.
I’m only 47 so I have years of this worry to get through

Yes I got on fine thank you, I had A giant breast cyst, which they've drained therein then.

I understand about the health anxiety board, what I have found is that it helps to separate the anxiety from real feelings. But I can imagine how it could also be triggering. Hope that you get on okay with your next round of tests! X

Skyliner001 · 23/02/2021 20:47

Sorry that you had your breast cancer so young, that must've been so frightening for you! I am 39, so have got awhile before mammograms 😱

Hatemyhusband · 23/02/2021 20:51

Thankyou x
