Hair thinning at age 35

Hello,

I have noticed my hair thinning on the very top of my head and around the temples (see pics).

I'm going to try to wear it down more often and I am going to book a GP appt.. I'm not sure why I'm posting really. Just for some support and advice if anyone has any.

I have shown pics, it looks much worse when I had the flash on my phone so I took that off and tried again.

I get Iron Infusions every 4 weeks ... my iron depletes at a rapid rate ... it might be an option OP 🌺

The life of a woman is very challenging as they have to do so many things simultaneously and consummately. As they take care of their family, other than working they forget to give some time for themselves. Women after 35 years of age have changes like the growth of skin cells and hair cells stop

@Caramel81, may I ask you what is the normal range of iron in your blood test result? As my ferritin was very low in July only 7 and the normal range was between 10 - 300. But 6 months later now it is 39 but I believe it is still too low though it is within the normal range. As I couldn’t cope with the prescription iron tablets so I had to take Spatone instead so making the recovery process even slower.

Caramel81 · 26/02/2021 20:59

The “normal” level is between 12-150 I think. But anything below 50 is classed as low iron and anything below 12 is anemic. My GP said good health is not usually felt until levels are at 70 minimum. Proper hair growth also needs to be at 70 minimum too.
It’s a very slow process :-(

Can only echo what everyone has already said about iron. Once it got very low and my hair was affected. Its slow progress getting it back to normal.
Get to the doctor's.

Should add, whilst I'm sure you hate it, you can't actually tell from the front.

Eloisedublin123 · 26/02/2021 22:50

And also (I have low ferritin too) being anemic means your covid vaccination won’t work as well - so get those iron level up (mine was 6 a few years ago 😕)

Thanks caramel81.

Has anyone felt restless e.g. restless legs or arms or other similar symptoms that may related to low ferritin?

Thanks caramel81.

Has anyone felt restless e.g. restless legs or arms or other similar symptoms that may related to low ferritin?

My tinnitus have improved but still there. But my level being 39 which is in the nhs normal range so the gp will not help. It means continuing with self medication but push for another blood test later this year.

@OP, Try to push for a as comprehensive as possible blood test. Other vitamin and mineral deficiency can also contribute to hair loss. Sometimes one deficiency affects the other/s. Eg low B12 can cause low iron also many people have vitamin D deficiency due to too much use of sun cream, too much indoors and lockdown. My gp wouldn’t check my vit D until I really made a fussy in his office. Then it turned out I was low in vit D too and was give high dose tablets once a week for 8 weeks. Take care
