After yesterday's temp spike, we have a rash, any ideas?

I posted yesterday about my ds's high temp out of the blue and I've just noticed a pink rash around his mouth, mainly on one side at the moment. It's a raised rash. He's not quite himself, but not too 'off' at the moment and although he woke up fine and with a normal temp, it feels as if it's creeping up again (haven;t taken it yet) Any idea what it could be?

could the rash be a reaction to the high temp he had?
earlier this year something similar happened to my dd, and i was so worried and took her to see her GP. Gp said it was just a viral infection and sometimes rashes appear after a hig temp and it was nothing to be worried about.

my ds had just had a virus, high temp followed by an odd rash on his face, mainly around mouth, ears, arms, hands, legs and feet, some of the spots blistered, rash lasted about 10 days.

gp said just a virus, rash is usually the tail end of it, all in all he was off colour for 2 weeks in total.

I've heard that from GPs too - the most recent when we had to defer ds's MMR for the second time due to the rash and I was beside myself thinking he had caught measles! This is an odd one, though. He has more spots now, on his legs and body and also under his nappy. some are raised, some are tiny and flat (all disappear when pressed, though). They are worse around where he has eczema, which seems a bit odd. He's ok in himself at the moment, though.

lucykate - how odd that some blistered, could it have been chicken pox? My ds's viral rashes usually only last a day or so, 10 days is a long time. I haven;t noticed ds being off colour, but at nursery they said he was very quiet on Tuesday, so maybe this has been brewing for a while.

Sounds like it could be hand foot and mouth, it's rife this time of year when there are a lot of birds about and the old leaves are lying on the ground, complete with bird poo comtamination - if the rash gets worse or he seems more poorly then take him to the doc's

lucykate · 04/11/2007 15:00

don't think it was chicken pox as he had that when he was 7 weeks old, very bad dose of it too. plus the spots were different, only about 1/3 of them blistered, and the others were more rash like and joined together than individual spots. my mum had me in a right tizz about it saying it was either measles or meningitis

i did think maybe hand, foot and mouth as he had some spots inside his mouth too but gp didn't mention that.

it is NOT meningitis, not from what you describe. I wouldnt have thought it would be measles either. DD has had a post viral rash before now, we took her to out of hours doctor to be on the safe side, but that was before i disconvered the wonder of mumsnet.

If it doesnt go down then go to the doctors tomorrow. If he gets a high temp again or it gets worse then ring your out of hours.

Hope little chap feels better soon

Lucykate, I wonder if your ds also had Henoch Schonhein purpura? (have started a thread asking questions about this)One of tell tale signs is a lack of spots on the trunk, they're all on the limbs and occasionally on the face (as I now know!). My ds also had a few spots in his mouth, but they don't seem to hurt as he isn;t off his food. Also some of his spots blistered, some not and some in clusters adn joined together! One of the complications can be joint pain (my ds has been limping) but also it can affect the kidneys (info from the hosp said up to 6 weeks post rash), so it might be worth getting it checked if you're worried?
