I have had quite a bad gum infection since Saturday morning, my face is extremely swollen. The emergency dentist seemed to think I would be ok until Monday morning and to see my own dentist. This morning about 3 o clock o got up to get some me more painkillers and I ended up vomiting and passing out, for o believe about twenty minutes, I managed to crawl through to my partner and asked him to phone 999 as well had such an awful feeling. He did and the ambulance service redirected him to 111, the nurse on 111 wanted to put me back to dental even though I told her how bad I'm feeling, chills, dizzy, sick and I just feel like somethings really wrong. I told her I would get my partner to take my to a&e and she said no point as they would just send me away, what should I do?

If you go now it should be quiet, I’d be tempted - can partner take you? Did you not get any antibiotics btw?

Finfintytint · 22/02/2021 05:13

Go to A and E anyway if you can’t find an all night chemist.

PracticingPerson · 22/02/2021 05:14

If you have passed out you should be checked.

Go to A&E and tell them you passed out and are concerned you have an out of control infection.

A&E can send you home if they think that is right.

DishingOutDone · 22/02/2021 05:14

Just saw you passed out, yeah in that case if feasible go to a and e but when you arrive don’t talk about dental issues say you passed out you feel very ill and then list your symptoms. Get well soon OP x

Very swollen face + chills, dizzy, sick and I just feel like somethings really wrong.
A&E

These symptoms with any infection need urgent assessment.

howyalikedemapples · 22/02/2021 05:19

No I didn't get any antibiotics, she thought I would be ok until today. I just feel so ill and strangely really frightened

I really hope this post finds you doing better OP x

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2021 05:22

Get your partner to take you to A&E now.

PracticingPerson · 22/02/2021 05:27

Then go to A&E. Stop talking about the dentist - say you have chills, a feeling of doom (use the word doom), you passed out and say you are afraid you have sepsis. Ask them to check you for sepsis. Ask them to tell you you definitely don't have sepsis.

Go now is my advice.

rainbowstardrops · 22/02/2021 06:02

I agree with @PracticingPerson
That was my first thought too. Well, I actually thought it might be an abcess first because I've had that before but the fainting and chills etc definitely need investigating.
Go to A&E now.

Bmidreams · 22/02/2021 06:42

Definitely go. Sepsis risk.

justgivejackie · 22/02/2021 12:10

I hope you went to a&e @howyalikedemapples

howyalikedemapples · 22/02/2021 14:40

I did, ended up on IV antibiotics for a few hours then went and saw my dentist who drained the abscess and gave me a prescription for antibiotics. Still feel rotten but hopefully on the mend soon, thanks all

Well done @howyalikedemapples - you needed that IV, if it had been sepsis then ordinary antibiotics wouldn't have worked. I always tell my late teen DD that being an adult is about taking responsibility for your own health (not suggesting that you are a late teen you could be older than me for all I know!) and you have certainly proved that Ok you asked for advice on here then you went and got it sorted. Hope you feel better soon. I'm so pleased I nearly put a x on the end!!

howyalikedemapples · 22/02/2021 15:14

Ah thank you! I feel quite cross now at how I have been fobbed off from various people, if it had been sepsis I could be in a lot more serious predicament. The local health board has made a point of saying how the NHS is still open to everyone but this weekend has proved otherwise unfortunately

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2021 15:47

Great news! I was another who was worried about sepsis risk.

I would urge you to contact the 111 service and complain - I don't believe you were assessed correctly.

IndigoJewel · 22/02/2021 15:52

So pleased you are ok !

PracticingPerson · 22/02/2021 15:56

Very glad you got antibiotics and treatment - get well soon Flowers

My approach now is quite direct as I'm sick of getting fobbed off and don't give a shit about being considered difficult Grin.
