Can anyone help with what this means please?
Had an US on liver a few weeks ago and this was on the report...

Does this mean fatty liver disease? Very worried

Thanks

Yes, it does sound like it. May I ask why you were having the scan?

Shel8487 · 21/02/2021 09:00

@MarieFromStTropez hey, I have elevated bilirubin levels in my blood and yellowing of the eyes. They told me giberts syndrome and not to be concerned about the fat on liver. I have since spoken to another doctor who told me gilberts shouldnt be persistent yellowing so I am getting worried.

It means you have a fatty liver and raised bilirubin. The bili on its own isn’t enough to tell you if that is causing inflammation of the liver (disease) and that single line from the uss isn’t enough to tell you if the raised bili is due to liver damage/a blockage/any other cause. I’d go back to your doctors (who have the benefit of all of your bloods and the whole uss report) rather than trust the variable wisdom of a bunch of strangers on the internet.

@Greybeardy I am waiting for them to call me next week. I had it done privately and a consultant told me nothing to worry about on my ultrasound at all and fat isnt a concern he never said fatty liver disease to me and billirubin is probably Gilbert's. Then when I have had the report sent through to me to provide to my NHS doctor this is what I have read so I am asking advice until I get a call from them.

That sentence is one piece of information in a bigger picture your doctor will be considering. Doctor then looks at all the pieces of information and how they fit together.

I don't think focusing on one line in isolation is helpful although I appreciate it's a very anxious time waiting for your appointment.

Does Gilbert’s Syndrome run in your family?

BritishLiverTrust · 22/02/2021 09:17

Hello, we have a free nurse-led helpline you could contact if you're worried: Call 0800 652 7330 between 10am and 3pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) or email [email protected] (emails can be sent at any time and are answered during helpline hours). x

I have had fatty liver in my ultrasound before and the sonographer told me it is common with people who have pcos or diabetes. If your GP is not worried then may be it is related to any other health condition you have.
