Confused about antibiotics

So yesterday I had an emergency dentist appointment due to 2 deep cavities/broken teeth.
They put in temporary fillings and they wrote me a script for antibiotics- a 7 day course of amoxicillin.
I started taking them yesterday but now my mum has said she doesn't think I was supposed to take them and they were only prescribed incase an infection developed.
The dentist said to me when I was there that he would "prescribed me something incase there was an infection as he was particularly concerned about the left cavity due to it being very deep.
I took this as I had to start taking the antibiotics right away but now I'm really confused and think I shouldn't have started the antibiotics unless I had more symptoms of infection etc.
Would you have took what the dentist said as I need to take the AB's now or have I been really stupid?? 😳😳

I would assume I should take them. If the dentist hadn't meant you to take them he wasn't very clear about it.

I would take that as he wasn't sure if an infection was present as it went very deep so you should take the antibiotics to head it off.

Carry on taking them for now. Call the dentist on monday to check that is correct.

PrincessandthePeach · 20/02/2021 20:17

See Minnie and nothing that's how I took it aswell as it is a deep cavity and I had been having pain along my jawline/beside ear.
I'm back at the dentist on Tuesday again anyway so I'm thinking I'll be okay and I should just keep taking them anyway.

Keep taking them.
7 days of taking them wont hurt you, but not taking them can make you very ill

I keep reading up on potential risks from AB's such as c.diff.
Does anyone know whether or not taking them if I wasn't supposed to can increase the risk of developing c.diff? As I have had a sore stomach since yesterday (no diarrhoea just abdominal pain).
Sorry, I'm prone to anxiety over things like this.

Just take the antibiotics

Not taking them and getting a bad tooth / gum infection can lead to alot more serious complications

MouthAche · 20/02/2021 20:57

Its a 1 week dose of antibiotics, which i presume is a 250mg 4 times a day type?

Your be fine! Take them!

alexio · 20/02/2021 20:58

Take the antibiotics it's a low chance you'll get c diff. Your stomach is probably sore either due to the anxiety or because of the antibiotics sometimes it can cause a slight upset for a day or 2

PrincessandthePeach · 20/02/2021 21:02

Mouth, it's amoxicillin 500mg x3 a day.
I'm sure I'll be okay. I just really overthink these things.

Thats still a very ‘average’ dose

You will be fine!
Take them!

It doesn't increase your chances. Its a risk every time you take them even if you need them but a very very small risk. My antidepressants carry a risk of stroke, suicide, heart attack and apparently a black hairy tongue. Confused But that risk is tiny and their benefits outweigh their risks.

You'll get a dodgy tummy from ABs most times. They wipe out all bacteria good and bad, no distinction. Drinking probiotic yoghurt can help settle the stomach.

You'll be fine, honestly, just take them. A tooth infection is agony of if you're getting pain near ear that's usually a sign that something's up. Might just be grumbling from being manhandled but could be the start of an infection so I'd say the benefits outweigh the risks.
