What is wrong with me? Numb hands, long periods etc

Background I’ve always suffered from heavy periods and migraines until I had my kids then I would only get these every so often, I’m on cerazette contraception.

Recently I’ve been bleeding for 3-4 weeks with a couple weeks break and usually get a migraine on my heavy days.
I’ve just stopped bleeding yesterday after a 26 day period (not sure if this is related) but since this period started I had a migraine and blurry vision for around a week, headache now gone but still having vision issues and constantly got numb hands, pins and needles, tingling that kind of thing.
Also I’ve been extremely tired so my partner has been getting up with the kids everyday but I did have covid at new year so I put that down to the after effects of coronavirus.

Has anyone else had numbness for around a month or longer and found a cause?

I have also noticed some random bruising on my legs, my legs feel heavy and sometimes my feet go numb too but my hands are constantly numb.

I’m actually scared to go to the doctors.

When I had this (and other symptoms which led to investigations for MS which thankfully I didn't have) it was due to hormonal contraception.

Bumpandus · 19/02/2021 16:33

Thanks for your reply @Chaotica
I’m worried about MS.
Thing is if it’s to do with contraception how comes I’ve been ok since I was 14 on it and it’s just getting worse now? And will I be offered alternative as I was previously told I could only be on mini pill due to my migraine so no other option?

Do you take B6 or B complex? It doesn't take much to overdo it and it mimics things such as MS. You feel dreadful with it. Luckily it usually comes down if you stop supplements unless you have an underlying issue with metabolism, I'm currently under investigation for this 😫

Suggest seeking medical advice.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 19/02/2021 16:40

If you have bled for 26 days there is a strong chance you could be anaemic.

The bruising would certainly suggest there is more going on, but anaemia can cause lethagy, severe headaches etc.

I would strongly suggest you speak to your gp

Choconuttolata · 19/02/2021 16:54

Anaemia?

B12 deficiency ?

Vitamin K deficiency?

Coagulation issues causing bruising?

Seek medical advice as checking these will require blood tests.

Einszwei · 19/02/2021 17:02

I get numbness in my hands. When I first brought it up in passing to the GP they were very quick to have blood tests carried out. I am currently being seen by a rheumatologist, but a cause has not been found yet.

Floreatfloruit · 19/02/2021 17:04

Thyroid?

You definitely need medical evaluation OP.

Chaotica · 19/02/2021 17:30

OP - I was fairly fine with hormonal contraception until just after I had my DC (late 30s), then it just started giving me awful side effects.

Some other good ideas on here but definitely worth a trip to the GP. (I waited for 18 months and the GP was like why?)

user0987654 · 19/02/2021 17:40

Seek medical advice. I had similar (tingling, fatigue, heavy periods) and my iron levels were on the floor

Bumpandus · 19/02/2021 17:43

I’ve been anemic before and it doesn’t feel like that.

I guess I’m putting it off cause the doctors are busy enough as it is and I was hoping to just sleep it off or something ...

Have you had your thyroid checked ?

Bumpandus · 19/02/2021 18:35

No what symptoms make you think it’s thyroid related?

I have no medical qualifications but you asked

“Has anyone else had numbness for around a month or longer and found a cause?”

I did (both hands) and it turned out to be thoracic outlet syndrome (a mechanical problem where nerves and arteries get pinched as they pass under your collarbone).

Specialist physios can diagnose it as can osteopaths. My neurologist diagnosed it and referred me to osteopathy.

This is probably irrelevant as it has nothing to do with your other symptoms.....

Heavy periods Tired Numb/ tingly hands

It's one of the things they would probably check at the doctor anyway.

Thanks all
