He's been ill now for 2 weeks coughing, sore throat, temp on and off, off solids, he has days where he doesnt keep his fluids down.

I took him to GP tues afternoon, she told me it was a chest infection and gave him antibiotics. From 8pm that night he brought back all his bottles, by 6pm the following day i was getting worried, not many wet nappies, temp still up and down and he could hardly breathe properly so I got DP to drop me off at A&E. His sats where 76 when we got there, they kept an eye on him and sent us up to childrens ward he managed to get his sats back up to 98/99 on his own without oxygen.

Doc on childrens wards asked about asthma, said his airways are really tight, gave him an inhaler and sent us on our way with 24 hour open access if he kept vomiting. He didnt, he picked up thursday, still wasnt himself but better. Till last night he had a bottle of milk at 7pm, a yogurt at 9pm and then spent the whole night throwing up again, DP got up with him at 7am, said he had a bottle of milk, threw it right back up and went back asleep.

When i came down at half 9 (lazy mare!) he had fallen asleep on the floor with his bum up in the air whilst playing. Just not himself, giving lots of cuddles, keep laying down with his head on the floor whining. Ive given him calpol, he doesn have a temp today and Im managing to keep sme milk down him by giving him 2oz at a time.

Just wondering whether he needs to go back again. hes crying alot, sleeping alot, still not fussed with solids.

doc on childrens ward told us to stop anti biotics too
Im worried Im being an over panicky mum.

TIA

(sorry for the length!)

I'd take him - just so that you can have some reassurance. He's only a baby - they'd rather you took him in if you are worried. Did they manage to send any sputum samples do you know?

Julezboo · 03/11/2007 12:03

they didnt do any tests at all, just checked his throat with a nasty stick (been there enough with my 5yr old too) gave him 6 puffs on ventilin checked him after 20 mins (he was sleeping in my arms) then sent us home.

take him back

ds got bronchiolitis at around this time of year when he was a baby (lots of coughing and vomiting!). Sounds quite similar. Even if it's not that, he needs to be looked at.

I'd take him straight back to the ward and get them to check his oxygen SATS again.

You should take him back.

When my DD as a 2yo had a bog standard chest infection (no breathing probs or hospitals), we had an automatic followup appt with the GP a week later, and then another a week after that. That was having reasonably recovered from the illness, so it is a no brainer you should take him back if he is still suffering.

I would take him back too. It does sound like an RSV type infection - and my dd hardly had a temp with it at all, but lots of tightness, difficulty breathing, and vomiting her feeds. Its also possible that your ds had a virus, started to get over it, then came down with a secondary infection - so all in all, I'd get him checked for peace of mind!

Hope he's all better soon.
