Dd has pale pink rash on body ...

My dd's been under the weather since Monday with fluey symptoms, fever (worse at night), a bit sick, off her food and clearly not feeling well. She's 2. Last night before her bath I noticed that she had some pale pink marks on her tummy and thought perhaps they were heat spots as she's been burning up so much. This morning the rash is allover her tummy, back and especially under her arms. I immediately phoned the GP who had no emergency appointments but did call me back and said that as it's a pale rash with no spots with raised heads it's probably nothing to worry about. I can phone back at 4pm and try for an emergency appointment this evening. But I can't help but worry and wondered if anyone had any ideas what it might be while I'm waiting to get her to the GP.

You could call NHS Direct, or go to A&E if you can't get an emergency appointment. If you went to A&E early evening, you might find there was not too much of a queue. Definitely worth getting it looked at, if only to put your mind at rest! Hope she's feeling better soon.

I'm sure the GP is right - it's probably just a virus. But seeing a rash does tend to make you worry more than a fever and general grumpiness, even though it's just another symptom.

If I was you I would just keep an eye on her, keep her comfortable, and if she starts feeling worse or the rash gets much worse, then call them back.

Have to disagree with tortoiseshell, it doesn't sound like grounds for a trip to the hospital. Of course if she seems really sick and you get very worried then it would be a different matter.

have you tried the glass test? roll a glass over the spots. if they disappear / fade under pressure, fine. If not, take her straight to A&E as this sort of non-blanching rash can be a symptom of meningitis/septicaemia and needs treatment fast.

Thanks everyone. Edam, I'll try that when she wakes up, she's been doing these incredibly long naps while this is going on. KatG and tortoiseshell I'd rather not go to A&E unless I have to. She's not lethargic or floppy like she has been with a chest infection twice in the past wherein I raced her to A&E and she was kept in. She's hot and grumpy and off her food but I've seen her much worse. it was my lack of experience with rashes that got me worrying. She's also been saying she's got a sore neck but she's not entirely predictable in that respect as she often tells me things are sore so we can play the 'kiss it better' game. I'm sure if it was anything really horrible she'd have got worse over this last few days whereas apart from the rash, today she seems a bit better.

Just an update here. I took dd to GP this afternoon and it turns out that the rash is part of this nasty virus she's got. He said her glands were very solid in her neck and tummy which also explains why she's eaten ZERO for the last 3 days.

There is a pig of a one circulating in London, prefernot. Glad to hear she is starting to be on the mend now.

Phew! At least it's nothing too serious. Hope she feels better very soon.

my ds started with a temp at the weekend, off food and milk, not himself at all. Then on Tuesday he had a rash all over his chest and back, and bit round his eyes and forehead. gp said it was the sign of a virus thats going round. today, the rash seems to be going, so hopefully he's getting over it. emergency gp said to dilute his milk by half, to prevent him getting the runs if it did turn into a tummy bug; but i spoke to my actual gp later on, as he is waking up starving at all hours, due to not eating much in the day, so she said as long as he hasn't got diarrhoea, to give him his normal milk. anyway the rash has gone doen quite a bit today, so hopefully he's getting over it; hope your liitle one picks up soon.
