That happens to my dd if she doesn't have enough to drink. If you can persuade him to drink water/diluted juice/milk/formula whatever, that should help. Sometimes I resort to adding extra water to fruit puree or give dd soup, to get extra fluid into her. If all else fails, then stew a couple of prunes and puree them in the cooking water - guaranteed to do the trick!

thankyou Roskva, i have just given him some warmed juice. Poor little thing cant settle and its so unlike him!

may try the prune thing tomorrow if he doesnt poo before then.

If he is weaned/weaning you could mush up some all bran original too. That works wonders in our house
Depending on his stage of weaning you could just give him the All bran straight from the box. Little stick things, my ds loved them

REIDmylips · 02/11/2007 20:18

he would eat them straight from the box too. will give him some for a snack tomorrow (followed by prunes )

Cor, it's going to be fun in your house tomorrow!!

Do hope it sorts itself out. Hope you have a good night and that he can settle ok
Love to you

Have you tried massage? Lie him on his back and gently rub and press his tummy in a clockwise direction. Also "bicycle" his legs (sing a song to help it seem less weird!)

JacketPotatoTeddy · 02/11/2007 20:25

oh yes snowleopard - massage v good!

REIDmylips · 02/11/2007 20:31

he has gone off now, thank you all so much for the advice. I am sure he'll be up again in the night, may send dh out in the morning for the all bran and prunes!

will also give the massage a try in the morning.
Fingers crossed! thanks again x

I hope you both get a decent night. Dd woke up 4 times last night, so I'm hoping she does better tonight, too.

If you are giving extra roughage it is really important to give loads of extra water and fruit juice, so you don't end up with an enormous solid boulder of poo that is painful to pass. Having been through this experience I would suggest carrots, apples, oranges, well chopped dried fruit and oats for small children, rather than bran. Probiotic drinks and live yogurt are quite useful stool softeners.

Massage and bicycling help, as does a warm bath.

Hope he manages soon.

How's your little one today, Reid?
