Why do I have one numb fingertip?

It's odd. I'm worrying it has something to do with the massive migraine I had last week. It's not totally numb, but it has some numbness to it. (Just don't tell me anything too scary )

I had this recently on my right index finger. It occurred to me later that it is my mouse-clicking finger. Don't know if that's any help but thought I would just throw it in.

I get this sometimes, the tip of one finger or another. It seems to pass.

Maybe it's leprosy?

NotQuiteCockney · 02/11/2007 19:46

Oh, shit, just saw the 'don't tell me it's anything too scary' thing as I pressed 'Post' - I've had it for ages, and no fingers have fallen off, so I'm pretty sure it's not leprosy.

at NQC scaring FPSB. My Grandmother has a numb finger, ever since she broke her neck in a car accident. I doubt that's your problem either.

Could you be putting pressure on a nerve somehow? Eg have you been sitting with your elbows on the desk a lot, or with a bad posture?

FizzPopSquirdleBang · 02/11/2007 19:53

Hee hee, NQC, I hadn't thought of leprosy Pretty sure it's not that!

RT It's my left handed forefinger so not mouse clicking.

The not wanting to know scary stuff really was because I have abeen a little paranoid about health since my dad suffered a massive heart attack 6 months ago. I seem to connect any problem to a heart one (even though I am much younger and fitter than him) I have also read about strokes and that finger numbness can be a symptom and also migraine.

But I know I am reading too much into it and will stop

I also have a cough atm. Ds2 and 3 have a nasty chesty cough so am sure this is a version of theirs.

Hmm, don't think I have a broken neck, Bran The nerve thing could be a possibility. I also get carpal tunnel syndrome from time to time so another possible. Also my circulation isn't fabulous (god I sound like such a hypocondriac ), but it's odd that it's just one fingertip.

If you're right handed with your mouse, have you been leaning your chin on your left hand with your elbow on the desk? I do this a lot if I'm tired and surfing.

superwitch · 02/11/2007 20:01

which finger - I once had a numb little finger and gp said it was a problem in my elbow! When pg I had carple tunnel which affected my thumbs and index finger.

You can catch leprosy from armadillos. Have you been hanging out with armadillos? (Or lepers?)

I think it's likely to be a pinched nerve, in the wrist, or the back.

ShinyHappyRocketsGoingBANG · 02/11/2007 20:42

Trapped Nerve? (In eg elbow as SW said) or Repetitive Strain Injury? Stung by a stingin nettle earlier in day?

FizzPopSquirdleBang · 02/11/2007 21:42

Strange you should mention armadillos, I had one over for lunch just the other day .

Actually saying that, what about meerkats? Can you catch it from them. DS2 brought one home from school yesterday (tis the class pet...admittedly stuffed though )

Do you reckon it could be viral related? As I said DS's have coughs etc and I know I'm getting said cough.

You know, now that I think back on it, my Grandmother didn't think she had broken her neck either. At the time of the accident she was complaining her arm hurt so the A&E doctor had it x-rayed and it wasn't broken. Nearly a week later it still hurt so she went to her gp who realised that there was a possibility that her neck was broken, and told her to sit very still until the ambulance arrived with a neck-brace.

FizzPopSquirdleBang · 04/11/2007 08:30

Numbness has gone off a bit now (or it could just be that all of me is numb after our fireworks party last night )

Your poor grandmother! Thank goodness she had a a good doctor!
