Fecal impaction

In desperate need of advice! Since having 5 ruptured ovarian cysts 3 weeks ago I've been suffering on and off with constipation. Today I need to go, very much so but can't. Sorry tmi but it's there I just can't pass it and I don't know what to do with myself! I've taken three Dulco Ease tablets so far, drunk some melted coconut oil and about 6/7 pints of warm water. I've done child birth and had a million internal scans but this is something I can't face the doctors for. Any advice?

Dulcolax if you are really constipated. That will definitely sort it!

Dulcoease is a softener rather than a laxative.

Then try some Fybogel every evening to keep regular for a bit.

Are you taking co codamol for pain or something? That can cause constipation.

Chimpfield · 16/02/2021 16:16

Ring your go. He can prescribe some suppositories to help you pass it.

Crazydoglady123 · 16/02/2021 16:18

Thank you so much. Will dulcolax not make it worse as I need to go to the loo, just can't pass it.

No, nothings changed but I had 5 ruptured ovarian cysts three weeks ago and had so much bloating from them and that's when the constipation started happening.

Someone said micro-lax and a chemist near me has some so going to go try that!

Had this after I had DD. In addition to suppositories I found - ahem - a clean finger applying tonnes of Vaseline just inside - really helped. Just a very liberal application on the exterior and just inside. Bit gross but it really worked for me! Read that tip on here on an old thread when I was in agony, it basically just helped the very hard stools to ‘ease’ out and once those made it out things were much better. Hope you’re feeling better soon OP.

Hook a clean finger in your vagina and apply pressure directly to the lodged poop to help it out. I've never tried it but no some people swear by it. It makes sense.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 16/02/2021 18:15

I got glycerine suppositories from boots when I had a similar problem many months ago. We're very cheap and sorted it quickly

Crazydoglady123 · 16/02/2021 19:08

Thanks everyone. I bought some microlax and spoke to the pharmacist and he said if it doesn't work I need to go to a&e. I used it and the Vaseline and decided to just try and push through the pain and take a chance on tearing (I'd decided I'd rather go a&e for a tear than fecal impaction 😅) and managed to go 🙌 Hurt like a bitch, close to giving birth pain and still feeling pretty sore although I'd rather be sore than how I'd been feeling all day 😆

Woop! I’m so pleased for you - honestly it was the worst bit of my post baby recovery - far worse than the stitches or anything. Now you’ve got the hardest bit (pardon the pun) out the way I hope it’ll be a lot easier. I would keep the Vaseline in a convenient spot for the next couple of days just in case though Wink

Crazydoglady123 · 16/02/2021 21:24

@Dollywilde I totally feel for you having to go through that after labour! That must have been awful. I don't know why since I've been having the cyst problems why I'm getting so constipated. I'm eating bran flakes for lunch and I naturally eat loads of veggies (love veg!). I'm going to keep taking the dulcosoft for a few days too as I'm feeling rather sore 😏

Notsureaboutmuch · 16/02/2021 21:29

Do you drink enough water on a daily basis?

CornedBeef451 · 16/02/2021 21:31

If it happens again glycerine suppositories are amazing.

I couldn't go for a week after a C section, I was still in hospital and felt like I was sweating poo! I was leaking diarrhoea from all the laxatives but the impacted stuff wouldn't come out. A couple of hours after the suppository I birthed a fist sized, spherical poo and felt amazing!

Fingers crossed you'll be ok now!

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/02/2021 21:31

Have you needed lots of pain relief for the cyst issues? Things like codeine can make you constipated.

Crazydoglady123 · 16/02/2021 21:42

@Notsureaboutmuch yeah I drink loads of water and green and mint tea everyday

@CornedBeef451 that feels like what I had! I actually ordered some today off Amazon just in case I wasn't sorted tomorrow 😉

@Sunshinegirl82 my fertility consultant told me to take co codamol but I know that slows things down and because I was so bloated I didn't take any, just stuck to regular paracetamol and ibuprofen

CornedBeef451 · 16/02/2021 23:22

Well done getting sorted, I had no idea constipation was so awful until it happened! I'm usually very regular so I became obsessed with how many poos were inside me, 14 poos by the end of the week!

Hope you recover and feel better soon.

KingsArmy · 16/02/2021 23:26

Buy some Linwoods flaxseed and sprinkle a few heaped spoonfuls on your cereal everyday. The doctor my mum saw for severe constipation suggested this and she has been sorted ever since!

Eleoura · 16/02/2021 23:28

Look up 'squatty potty'. You don't need to buy this brand, but look it up to see the position you need to be in to help dramatically. Anything that can lift your feet up can help whilst sitting on a western toilet will straighten your bowel. Bricks, large tins, phone books or those small, childrens stools.

I suffered from dreadful constipation when pregnant and lifting the feet to an almost squat position was the only thing that helped.

Yes, water, fibre, movement and diet help too, but this was the absolute one thing that made a massive difference.

Eloisedublin123 · 16/02/2021 23:34

Magnesium. Drink the powdered one (that goes fizzy when you add hot water to it) and soak your feet in epsom salts. Every day
