FFS: all my symptoms in one

I am fat, 50s diagnosed depression. I'm having difficulties sleeping, going to the loo frequently, sore teeth from grinding them in the night but also now gum disease.

I have lots going on including a pretty challenging career , teens with behavioural issues and I've been writing everything off as perimenopause/stress for a few years.

Except it isn't. I found out today that I have uncontrolled type 2 diabetes and probably have had for at least months and probably years. Possible damage to brain and eyesight. I thought it was just menopause brain fog/ageing.

I'm a fecking idiot.

Right. I need to lose weight. GP has offered meal plans but I want to get off to a flying start. Has anyone got a brilliant 'lose weight quickly for health reasons with low carbs' plan? Thanks

Hi, I know slow and steady weight loss, healthy eating, cutting sugar is the correct way for long term sustainable weight loss. However, meal replacement diets are a great way to kick start weight loss. Hospitals use this method for overweight patients prior to surgery as they work so quickly. I have high blood pressure which I control with medication, but I’ve found that when I use a meal replacement diet my readings are really good. I personally recommend the Exante range of meal replacement bars and shakes. I believe there is a thread about this range as well as other meal replacement plans on the diet and weight loss thread. Good luck.

I don’t know about kick starting a diet. There are suggestions on diet from Diabetes UK. It’s not a specific diet, more general information.

The blood sugar diet is good to start. Then low carb, or just low carb straight away. My SIL reversed her T2 diabetes with low carb.

Low carb, good fats, high protein and no sugar.

DP and I have both lost loads of weight and feel so much better - more energy, sleeping better, DP is a type 1 diabetic and his blood sugar levels are v much better- he's injecting 1/3 of the amount of insulin he used to and his blood sugars remain stable all day.

Have a look at Tom Watson's (Labour Party) book or any of the articles he's written about losing weight and reversing his t2 diabetes- v inspiring!
