Sore bit front of neck

I have a sensitive bit on the front left side of my neck. It's hard to identify exactly where though. I can't feel any lumps (except for salivary glands, one on each side) and I've been pressing like mad. I've noticed it feels a bit more sensitive when I have my period. It's so hard to describe: it's like I'm just aware that something feels tight/sensitive. Sometimes when I press it can feel quite sore but not in a painful way, just a sensitive way. This is a terrible description I know.

A few months back I suffered with a sensation of a lump in my throat alongside this. Doctor checked me over, couldn't feel anything. They referred me for an endoscopy just to double check (mainly cos I was anxious about it). I'm still waiting! That feeling has disappeared though.

I'm pig ignorant when it comes to structures of the neck despite extensive googling. I know there are lots of muscles there - it does feel quite 'on the surface' rather than deep. Could it simply be a strained muscle/ligament underneath the skin? I have three young kids and am constantly picking them up, having one on my hip etc (and on the side where the feeling in my neck is). Does any of this ring a bell with anybody else? Thanks in advance :-)

I don't know what caused the original sensation, but we get all sorts of sensory information all the time that we don't tune into. I would suggest that it is likely that your anxiety is perpetuating the pain because you are over focusing on it and prodding it. If you picked another random point on your body with soft tissues and checked it repeatedly (especially if like your throat /swallow it is an area that responds to anxiety by constricting) and pressed and poked it, you might see that this is causing the problem?

Yes, I have wondered this. It truly is irritating me though, I'm so aware of it. But that's the paradox isn't it!

It could be, yes. It could also be your thyroid.

Thank you for the response. I had bloods not long ago that were fine and the feeling isn't around my thyroid but it's certainly something I've wondered about!

Just to add to my hypochondriac thread: if I stroke it, it feels sensitive but if I then pull the skin taut and stroke again, it's not.

I'd want to speak again to my GP if that were me, OP.

Thank you, I just wonder how to push it further if she feels and says there's nothing there

If it's been a few months since you've seen the doctor can't you book another appointment and say it is still concerning you?
Also can you ring the endoscopy department and ask how long the wait or for a cancellation?

Thanks, I think I will. I'm definitely noticing it more now I have my period and everything feels sensitive. I hope it's just muscles/ligaments in that spot on my neck but i am feeling worried :-(
