Invisalign for traumatic bite/ bite issue

opalescent · 14/02/2021 12:47

Has anyone had Invisalign for bite issues? I have bruxism and TMJ issues, and have lost teeth as a result. This in turn has generally messed up my bite, causing undue pressure (and pain!) for remaining teeth.

My dentist feels a course of Invisalign could really help with evening things up again. Just wondered if anyone has been through similar?

Thank you

I would go and see a orthodontist who will do soder invisalign alongside lots of other orthodontic options that might be better suited for you.

I used to work in an orthodontic practice and we had plenty of referrals through to fix the work of dentists who have paid for a very short course to become certified in invisalign.

Your case sounds fairly complex and much better suited to a specialist. Most offer free consultations pr take the cost of the consultation ofd the overall treatment if you decide to go ahead.

Thank you, this is really valuable advice, I will definitely do so!

Do you have a local dental hospital? I would definitely try there before going to look at private treatment. Your dentist should be able to refer you.

Get a referral to the Dental hospital rather than go for Invisalign. TBH, it sounds like your dentist is trying to get you to pay for something that is NOT meant for TMJ. I’ve been under the dental hospital now for years!

Soontobe60 · 14/02/2021 19:43

Oh and I’ve not paid a penny for my treatment there.

Dentist here. Invisalign is really limited and only suitable for simple cases. And as above if it's left in the hands of minimally experienced dentists it could go spectacularly wrong. Get referred to an actual orthodontist for this

Have you thought about Botox for the TMJ?

Beeeees · 14/02/2021 19:58

Soontobe60 same here, it would have cost me a fortune to pay privately for all the treatment they gave me.

Thank you all, I will ask my dentist about a referral. Much appreciated.
