two-week old dd has been prescribed penicillin for an infected cord stump. it's the nasty pink liquid stuff, and i have been given a syringe to administer it with. no matter what i try, she gobs the medicine straight back up again and i don't know what to do. anyone got any ideas...?

I think the only way is little by little I'm afraid.

you need to do it very slowly with a syringe, right at the back of the tongue.
Getting 5 ml down will probably take you 15 minutes that way, but IME it's the easiest and most reliable way of getting meds down them.

Sorry to here that your LO is poorly. Hope she'll be better quickly with the antibiotics.

Squirt tiny quantities into the side of her mouth (ie her cheek, not onto her tongue). Wait for her to swallow (stroking the throat downwards sometimes helps) before giving her any more. It could take you 10mins to give her one dose in tiny amounts.

Try tiny amounts lying down, sitting up, in between, on tongue, into cheek, until you get it right. Sorry, no experience prior to 2mth jabs!

oh, x-post x 2!

At least if it's a bright colour you know when they bring it back up again until you get someone feeding them pink wafer biscuits afterwards........
