Possible Reynaulds

Over the last few months I've started to get periods of pretty bad circulation in my fingers and toes with numbness and total loss of colour, particularly when in the cold, but also when curled up in a warm bed or half way round morrisons. Its beginning to impact my activities as any sort of extended periods outside are getting to be a bit miserable for me. I suspect it's Reynaulds Syndrome but have self diagnosed... is it useful getting a formal diagnosis? Is there any treatment for it? It is it more of a suck it up sort of situation? Any tips to help manage it? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Definitely Raynaud's!

I have severe Raynaud's, it can happen even when it's not that cold and with gloves on! Nothing can prevent mine from coming on really.

There is medication for it but I've never taken it as I've heard there are many side effects, one being that it can make you flushed in the face. And I have problems with that anyway!

But I would ask for it, if I were you.

I have it and mentioned it to the Dr once when i was there about something else and she basically said the side effects of the medication are generally worse than the reynauds so I didn't pursue it further. It's such a nuisance though, I can get it in the fridge aisle of the supermarket in the middle of summer!!

I’ve been wondering the same thing recently, mine comes in quite randomly and also sometimes in the fridge aisle!

I don’t think mine is problematic enough yet to seek medication that might have worse side effects.

I would recommend speaking to your doctor about it. I had some blood tests when I was diagnosed as Raynaud's can be a symptom of other issues - of course it's highly likely that it's not, but good to rule anything out.

I take medication for it over the winter months. It took me a while to find the right medicine, dosage, etc but I wouldn't be without it now. I take it at a low level to minimise side effects so I still get some Raynaud's symptoms but not nearly so severely.

My gp referred me to a rheumatologist who did a number of tests to make sure raynauds was primary and not secondary. They prescribed me medication which made me feel light headed at first but I got used to it fairly quickly and it does help manage the attacks. Though I only take it when it's really cold. Mostly I make sure i wear lots of layers, thermal vests, wrist warmers, fleece lined boots, mittens with glove liners.
