Any suggestion to alleviate the tensed jaws & facial pain?

I'm certain it's the anxiety built up over these months with having to deal with all these intense feelings during the pandemic, particularly the homeshooling.

The tension is mostly concentrated around the facial muscles around the mouth under the nose, where the smilelines are. I can feel the first thing in the morning, the muscle is all knotted up even after a night of sleep. I know my jaws must have been clenching/biting each other when I was in sleep. Just can't relax them.

I'm aware it's an overall mental healthy issue. But is there any suggestion just to alleviate the localised tension on the the face?

Thank you.

Gosh, so many replies! Thank you!

MoonshineWashingLine, I felt the same. The mouth guards seemed to made my jaws opened too wide so they just fought to close resulting in clenching even harder. Just my guess. But I really didn't like them.

Aurea, I'm still breastfeeding. But thank you for the recommendation. I will certainly try it once I stop feeding the little one.

Katkincake, Don't need to wait for TK Maxx reopen. There are loads on Amazon.

Auldspinster, I started to think they might help. Looking around for the right one at the moment.

OneMillionSteps, I started to use my toothbrush do the same pushing from inside thing after I read your tips. Gosh, it hurts (but good!).

HelloViroids, If by the time I see the dentist after things return to normal (if ever!), I still haven't sorted this out, will definitely explore Botox.

growinggreyer, Thank you for the tips!

Not just me who can't get on with the mouth guards then!

@Aurea I had a look at your link
herbalpetsupplies.co.uk/product/hhh-chill-drops/
But noticed it's for pets??? Bit odd Hmm

I have this and a mouth guard/ gum shield that you can fit yourself has really helped - would recommend. When you notice you are clenching, smiling really widely helps as well!

I find i tense my jaw more if my shoulders and back are tense or tight. A hot bath then a back / shouder massage might help. If you don't have a willing masseuse at home then a tennis ball between your back and the wall and roll it around.

The website also sells for pets. However they sell many human herbal products under the 'herbal health and home tab'.
