If you wear orthotics, do you have multiple pairs or move them around?

I know it may seem an odd question!

I have major problems with my hips and knees. I am incredibly knock kneed on my right leg. To get my knee pointing straight, my foot almost points at a 45 degree angle.

Have had loads of physio to try help the knee pain but what has made the biggest difference is a pair of orthotics that changes the way I walk.

They were really expensive but they definitely work. I only have one pair and I put them in the waterproof shoes I walk the dog in. I haven't been running because I've been ill, but the physio did recommend I wear them in my running shoes too.

Do you just move them from shoe to shoe or do you have more than one pair?

My ds has some that are made for him at the hospital. He moves them from shoe to shoe. When he buys new shoes, he pits them in the shoes when he is trying them on in the shop etc
They are marvellous things and have transformed life for him. Like he had knee and hip pain and constant swelling. It is all gone now!

I have two pairs, but one set is broken! I just move them from shoe to shoe.

@JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority how lovely that they make such a difference for him!

Thanks both - I shall move them from shoe to shoe!

I've had them for about 15 years and have lots but I have a lot of shoes. I buy a couple of new ones every year, the benefit is so great that it's worth it to me.
Also I have a pair of trainers I wear indoors with orthotic in and I never go barefoot.

I buy mine in Boots, they are about £20 a pair and I've been using them for about 15 years, I have 3 or 4 pairs on the go at any given time. I no longer need to wear them all the time. If they were custom made I'd probably try and manage with just one pair.

mistermagpie · 07/02/2021 17:09

I only wear mine for running (also have various foot and leg problems) and never wear them in my normal shoes. As long as I steer clear of high heels or very narrow/flat shoes then I manage ok. My main issue was related to running though, so that's why I got them.

mistermagpie · 07/02/2021 17:10

I should say mine were custom made at a cost of about £250, so I can't afford another pair!

Move them from shoe to shoe including my slippers

HappyThursdays · 07/02/2021 17:21

Thanks all - yes mine are custom made too so I will move them from shoe to shoe!

Mine have made a huge difference - I used to be in daily hip and leg pain without them but now only wear them about half the time and am still fine, I think my body has adjusted.

Mine are custom made. I've had the same pair for years and just move them around. I also wear them if I'm using the stationary bike so have a pair of indoor trainers for it that I move them too. They've made such a big difference to my pain levels.

I move them around because they're quite expensive.
