could be a long wait. i am 22 weeks pregnant so cant take anything stronger than paracetamol, which is useless really. anyone got any tips on what i can do in the meantime to ease the stiffness and pain?

something warm on your neck while sitting down. aim the shower spray at it (when you're in the shower obviously not when you're sitting down).

might get a wheatbag at the weekend then. (dont like hotwater bottles)

Hi I suffered through both of my pg's with lower back, hip pain, and sciatica and you are allowed stronger painkillers.......I have been on doses of combined codine & Paracetamol starting on 8mg codine + 500mg paracetamol for moderate pain up to 36mg c + 500mg p for accute pain (when I was unable to walk)
I also found a tens machine to be useful....not the matterity kind though but one very similar that just sends a constant stream of massaging current through the nerves. You may need help with the positioning of the pads as this can make all the difference ........ a good make will come with the correct placings for most common ligament and muscle pain.
I am currently receiving fortnightly ultrasound massages from my physio and they seem to be working !

Remember if the pain realy is that bad you can ask for stronger pain relief and as its a fairly long term problem I would strongly suggest the tens machine they arn't expensive and you can get a very good one with variable programes strengths bandwith etc for about £50.00

misdee - I hate to introduce this next comment but will promise to limit it to only once if your injury was caused by an accident not your fault you could try and ask the "at fault" insurance company to pay for private physio - now Im running away in case the lynch mob get me

jampot, i currently have a claim going through atm. stupid lgv driver.

was perscribed codeine and paracetamol for back pain when pregnant with dd2, and hated the way i felt when on it. also didnt like the fact the baby can be born with codeine dependancy apparently which isnt pleasent for the baby really.

misdee - ask your solicitor to request private physio especially in view of your current state. The insurance company should agree to it pretty readily and it just means you get sorted quicker - either they will pay direct or you pay and they will reimburse you.

misdee, I would look into the private option as it's best sorted asap. Find out if your solicitor is signed up to the "Rehab code of best practice". it's a sort of agreement between insurers and solicitors that they'll fast track rehab and many more insurers are paying for it. Do you know how the third party insurers are as they may also be signed up. i actually work for a rehabilation provider with some of the main insurers/solicitors so let me know if I can help.

the other thing is just to organise private physio and keep your reciepts. There's a private physio website if you need it.

In the meantime try and keep the neck moving as much as possible and unless there a specfic reason don't wear a collar!!

Hi Misdee, I had osteopathy for whiplash when pregnant, but quite a bit earlier in the pregnancy than yourself, also you may find someone will do acipunture on you to help with the pain.

Last thing I'd say is I also found general massage very helpful as it relaxed me and that helped with whiplash pain too!

Let's hope it wears off for a few weeks until junior arrives!
